It was spontaneous. It was delightful.
The afternoon had already gotten off to a good start when I texted my sisters and asked if they wanted to join Foster and me on a drive to Bonners Ferry.
Didn't take them more than a few seconds to say yes.
We've all been in our winter cocoons for months, a sunny Sunday afternoon offered a good opportunity to break the pattern.
They were finishing up a pruning project when I arrived. Soon, however, we packed into the Subaru with another dog in the mix. Meggie came along and sat next to Foster.
The ultimate goal was the National Wildlife Refuge with hopes that the viewing loop would be open to vehicles.
Unfortunately, the gate was closed, but we had already had a nice time soaking up sun at the boat launch to the Kootenai River, which is always a great photographic spot.
After snapping a few pictures, we struck up a conversation with Lynn, who had ridden her e-Bike from town. Lynn is a big proponent of e-Bikes, and we, who wouldn't mind having our own, were all ears.
She says she puts in about 20 miles a day and doesn't always put the bike into full electric mode.
E-bikes seem like a pretty good option for those with knee problems. Lynn says riding the bike doesn't bother her knees at all.
While we visited, a serious of dramatic clouds to the east maintained an ever-changing sky.
Twas out and out gorgeous in that spot.
We drove the West Side Road back through Naples on our way home.
It was a wonderful change in routine and an opportunity to leave the television sets behind in favor of the show Mother Nature was offering.
She was pretty good to us yesterday.
And, for a day that started out early with Miss Lily dealing with some mild but concerning colic, our afternoon trip offered a nice outlet.
Bill and I talked to Annie yesterday while she was out walking/training for her next Camino in May. She had just posted her second installment in this year's Camino blog. Check out the link below.

After reading my friend Connie's blog this morning, I think I'd like to take in a few sessions at the Hope Community art lessons.
She did a remarkable sketch of her newest Border Collie.
In the link below, you can see the sketch and the other activities keeping Connie busy as she waits for more snow to melt.
Slowly but surely, we're all doing our best to turn the page into a full-blown chapter called spring.
At this point, every little diversion counts.
Happy Monday.
