Saturday Slight

More rain is coming, those pesky weather forecasters say, so, with sunshine and relative warmth scheduled for today, this is definitely "Seize the Day Saturday."

And, that's what we're gonna do around here: seize and soak up every moment of sunshine.

I have a photo shoot this morning. Then I'll probably spend some more time driving my lawnmower and trailer around the place working on year projects.

Yesterday Bill pulled our little lawn trailer out of where it's been sitting for a number of years and replaced its bad tires.

So, I'm in business and ready to enjoy some of those normally heavy lifting, carrying or pulling projects with more ease: hay to the horses, hauling buckets of water or loading up other equipment to get from one place to the other.

The small tractor-trailer will make it a lot easier on these old cantankerous knees and definitely extend my ability to do the outside projects that I so love.

To my friend Becky:  your tomatoes survived the cold night in their temporary home.  And, they seem to be getting along just fine with my tomatoes.

For the life of me, I do not understand why Becky, a certified master gardener would trust me to foster her tomatoes.

When she handed them over to me yesterday to bring home to our greenhouse, I issued a disclaimer.

Seems she received the plants and had no room at her "inn" for them.  So, she asked if they could stay at our place until it was time to plant.

My immediate thought was that Becky knows me well but surely doesn't know me well enough to be aware that I have occasionally killed plants.

I even told her that they sometimes die under my watch, but she was desperate.

As I left yesterday, Becky suggested that she might call occasionally and check in on how the tomatoes are doing.  Am I watering them properly and giving them a little plant food now and then?

No pressure, I thought.

When I told Bill about calling Becky a helicopter 'mater mom to her face, he suggested that these were probably "friendship" tomatoes.

That thought put a warm and fuzzy touch on an otherwise questionable enterprise.  Stay tuned. I'll be excited in a few weeks when and if I hand over some live and more mature 'maters to my friend.

Blankets will come off from horses a little later today.

I'm looking forward to dryer conditions so that horse grooming will actually have some lasting effects.

I'm sure the horses feel the same.

Meet Joe Zavala.

He's my hairdresser Sally's hubby.

Joe is also a plumber extraordinaire who has recently gone into business for himself.

We've appreciated Joe's services a time or two, as have my sisters.

I enjoyed a nice conversation with Joe yesterday while Sally was working on my hair.

So enjoyable, in fact, I told him I'd get the word out on his new business.

So, if you're local, check out the information and keep Joe in mind the next time you have a plumbing need.
