It's hard to keep up with all the bloomin' and growing action around here these days.
I was astounded yesterday morning while watering my potato patch and the place where I'd popped a couple of pumpkin seeds into the manure pile.
Two pumpkins had already shot out of the pile and were busy growing.
Then, I looked at the potatoes and actually saw green leaves where I'd just put tater skins with eyes in the dirt four or five days before.
That summer session of heat and sun that we had last week did a lot for the growing process.
And, the blossoms and blooms or whatever you want to call them are putting shows all over the pace right now: lavender lilacs, pink lilacs, two-toned lilacs, elegant columbine blooms of several colors, irises putting forth epic and intricate flowers.
It's been a great year for bloomin' and growing, for sure.
Plus, I'm pleased to announce that one of my tomatoes in the garden is turning red. I may just plop it in my mouth today or tomorrow.
Gardening has been both fun and productive this year.
Speaking of blooming in the politics circles, imagine going to the polls during primary elections and not having to make a big, stressful and uncomfortable decision about which party you're going to have to pick.
Think about seeing all candidates, regardless of party affiliation, listed in the same group on the ballot.
All you have to do is vote for your favorite four individuals.
Then, after tabulations, it's decided who's going to show up on each party's side as the candidate for consideration on the general election ballot.
Pretty simple and a whole lot less stressful, I'd say.
Plus, fair for candidates and for voters!
Now, that's a novel idea!
A concept is blooming here in Idaho where the options mentioned above could eventually be the way we vote in future elections.
It's called "open primary."
Our Sandpoint visionary and statewide shaker and doer Luke Mayville (co-founder of Reclaim Idaho) is leading the way with other statewide organizations to put the Open Primary Initiative on the statewide ballot in 2024.
I sat through a ZOOM meeting last night with Luke and North Idaho volunteers, many of whom have worked with Luke on other Initiative campaigns.
There's enthusiasm, and there's a plan to get the forces going soon, knocking on doors or stationed in public areas, asking for voters to sign petitions of support for the Initiative.
Stay tuned.
This is a really exciting possibility for our state and for its independent voters who prefer to make their own choices and who seldom vote a straight ticket of their own volition.
Kinda like going to the grocery store where we have a variety of brands of pickles to select for our food carts or making choices with the auto dealers if we don't all want to drive Edsels.
If you'd like more information about the concept above and if you'd like to volunteer or donate to the cause, check out the link below.
Meanwhile, over in Spain, Annie is saying her good bye's to new pilgrim friends after completing the Camino.
Quite an accomplishment!
She'll be back in Seattle tomorrow.
Enjoy the photos.
Have a great Wednesday.
