Weekend Wash

It's still wet and soggy out there this morning, but the rain should be ending soon.

Also pretty.

Once more, a needed rain has washed the earth and maybe put a crimp in our style for a while.

We stuck pretty close to home yesterday where the television set kept us occupied.

When the main coronation coverage ended around 8 a.m. or so, Bill informed me that Kentucky Derby coverage started in half an hour.

He was right.  Anymore, it seems that the Derby television coverage could match the Super Bowl.

We were reminded of the Super Bowl later in the day when Tom Brady narrated a short piece on Secretariat, deemed the "GOAT" of horse racing.

The piece was honoring the 50th anniversary since Secretariat set an, as yet, unbroken record in his Kentucky Derby win.

Later, Super Bowl champion quarterback Patrick Mahomes' gave the cue of "Riders Up."

For the record, we did not get serious about watching the Derby coverage until noon.  During the rainy morning hours, I spent time cleaning out a flower bed.

Rain may get in the way of a lot of plans, but it provides the perfect opportunity for pulling weeds and grass from soggy soil.

I also spent some time out on the road, snapping photos of participants in this year's 3/4 Minus Cikeltur.  We had seen signs on the road and had learned that the route went by our house.

So, it was fun to see the riders, who had picked up their share of mud riding the dirt-road course.

Once we got serious about watching the Derby, as usual, the stories were both inspiring and heart-warming. If you have not seen the story below, it is well worth the watch and the tissues.

I'll leave you with this.

Happy Sunday.

First harvest yesterday.

Many of my asparagus spears are skinny this year, but that doesn't hurt the heavenly taste after they've been baked and buttered and seasons.

Since I had only three radishes ready to pick, I just sliced them up and added them to a small tub of Reser's potato salad.
