Happy FRYday

The echinacea is blooming.

It's a little over three weeks until fair time.

And, I've got pumpkins.

My pumpkin plant has been spreading steadily every day, and this week I discovered that it's supporting several little pumpkins.

I've decided to name the one pictured below "Garry," after my fellow pumpkin-growing, lawn-mowing friend.

Garry's been kinda laid-up with a bad ankle, so I don't think he's been doing too much gardening.

Could be, however, that he can still mow lawn, and, like me, he's been known for keeping his lawn tidy.

With luck, the pumpkin named "Garry" will go to the fair.  I hope it wins something cuz that would probably make him happy.

Anywho, summer is moving along quickly.  I've seen lots of talk on Facebook about The Festival at Sandpoint which begins next week.

This morning we have learned that one of the giants of The Festival's many illustrious alums has passed on.

Singer Tony Bennett was 96. Besides recording songs in the midst of dealing with Alzheimer's, he also performed at the Festival at Sandpoint back in the 1990s.

I can remember decades before that my mother loving to listen to Tony Bennett on the radio, especially when he sang "I Left My Heart in San Francisco."

His music was timeless and enhanced in later years with his teaming up with Lady Gaga.

So nice that he was able to use his gift for so long.

In spite of hints of early fall coming on, we're in for some beastly hot weather today. Fortunately, today will be the hottest of this latest string of days in the 90s and next week we can enjoy some 80s and cooler nights.

Bill and Willie won't worry too much about the heat cuz they'll be heading to Montana with the kayaks for some lake fishing.

Annie may feel it more than we do cuz she's in Michigan for some geocaching activities, and, for sure, the Midwest humidity will intensify the heat.

All that said, we really sympathize with all who have dealt with much more extreme heat in the South and Southwest.

Too bad we couldn't have a little more moderation in all aspects of our lives.  Seems like so many things are "extreme" these days.

And, so it's FRYday.  Could be a big slowdown in many outdoor activities unless they involve getting wet.

Stay cool. Happy Friday.

Poor Lily.  She's starving so she's unwittingly serving as an efficient weed eater around the barnyard fence line.

You do see netting on these petunias.

They're part of my barnyard garden, which is surrounded by netting to fend off hungry deer.

So far, it's been working.

Garry, the pumpkin

RIP, Tony Bennett
