Saturday Slight

On a beautiful and pleasant Friday evening in Sandpoint's Granary District, Bill and I enjoyed dinner, friendly dogs and Paul and Ieva Cataldo.

Bill had come home from his second day of gathering wood, while I had spent much of the day attending to  details for the time we'll be gone from the place during our upcoming trip to Ireland.

That included cleaning the refrigerator.

Always interesting discoveries when that happens, some good, some pretty putrid.

We decided to go to Matchwood for dinner and were pleasantly surprised to hear live music in the outside picnic area.

I wondered if the singers, playing their guitars and performing a soothing country-style song were local.

We found out later they were not.  Paul is from Massachusetts while Ieva comes from Lithuania.

The couple met in Alaska now live in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Paul and Ieva may have been as surprised as we were to see them performing on the outside stage.

They were slated to play another venue in Sandpoint, as part of a tour through the region.  Turns out the place has shut down, but nobody told Paul and Ieva.

They wasted no time finding a Friday-night venue in town, meaning that those who showed up for Friday-night dinner enjoyed an unexpected and fulfilling treat.

The best news for anyone in the area or even locally who's reading today is that they'll be playing again in Sandpoint tonight at the Pend Oreille Winery.

Bill and I immediately gave them the seal of approval.  They have beautiful voices, and their sets offer both originals with wonderful lyrics and well-known songs---many made famous by Chris Stapleton.

As I mentioned earlier, the duo offers a soothing, masterful and lovely style.  Bill compared Paul's guitar playing to Chet Atkins.

When they pause from their singing and let their guitars have at it, it's easy to recognize some unbelievable and amazing instrumental talent.

We listened to most of their performance at Matchwood and then on one of the CD's in the car.

So, do check them out at the Pend Oreille Winery tonight.  They'll move on to Coeur d'Alene and to several places in Montana in the next few days.

When we arrived at Matchwood, I saw whom I thought was one of my former students but wasn't quite sure.  I walked on and heard, "Is that Marianne Love?"

So, yes, I was right and so was Michael Waldrup.

He's a local attorney these days, and he was quite proud of his brightly colored pants.

The food was great.  Love those tots!

AND, the dogs didn't even beg.

We regretted not bringing Foster last night because the wide open spaces of Matchwood's outdoor venue offers a perfect opportunity for peeps and their dogs to enjoy a night out on the town.

Next time!

The Golden Retrievers are siblings.  Their peeps were nice too.

Another gorgeous day ahead. Bill has gone to a forestry tour in Clark Fork, so I'll just keep at it, enjoying the weather around here.

Happy Saturday.
