Saturday Slight

Foster and I took an afternoon drive along HWY 200, stopping at Pack River Flats and then the Trestle Creek recreational area.

It's fun going such places on gorgeous September days when school is back in session, most tourists have left and recreational sites are pretty empty.

One always figures that whatever people you see in these places will have the same idea as you did:  a chance to spend some quality time in a quiet, beautiful place without the summer hustle bustle.

Twas just that way yesterday at Trestle Creek with a couple of vehicles parked near the launch and another few closer to the swimming area.

And, it was beautiful as the lake waters shimmered and sparkled in a slight breeze.

When the guy came by seemingly standing on water with his electric-powered board, I thought that might be kind of fun.

Then, I wondered how much practice it takes staying aboard at those speeds and, of course, the price tag. The closest thing I could find was a mere $6,000-plus.

So, we'll probably stick with our own human paddling power when we take our kayaks out.

Little Foster and I enjoyed our time during those stops and then moseyed on back to the Lovestead where all three dogs kept me company while I spent the rest of the afternoon doing some clean-up in the garden.

Seems that a lot of cucumbers were hiding in the vines. I was pleasantly surprised to pick another nine cukes along with several Sun Gold tomatoes.

That will be the last of the cucumbers because I pulled their vines yesterday.  'Maters are still producing so they'll stay.

I have also harvested all my potatoes for the year.  It was a good crop but would have been much better if the pesky varmints hadn't eaten half of them.

BTW: the partially eaten green pumpkin was gone this morning.  Happily, the nighttime visitor prefers to leave the ripe pumpkins alone.

Nice deer!

Another gorgeous day ahead.  We have been blessed with some wonderful weather, and we're doing our best to enjoy every minute.

Happy Saturday.

I've never seen squirrels steal the entire sunflower head. Maybe that's who's eating the pumpkins.
