Wednesday Mutterings

We expected pouring rain this morning.

Instead, we already enjoyed this scene to our east.

It's the Cabinet Mountains and the Taylor's field.

Those snow-capped mountains are telling us that winter is making its approach.

It's okay with me, though,  if the snow stays in the mountains. It's much prettier up there.

Anyway, I have a rainy-day agenda of "things to do" today.  If the rain holds off some of that may change to outdoor projects.

Leaves keep falling so I always can fire up the lawnmower and pick up a few more.

If it stays dry, I might go visit my horses again.  Yesterday, besides trimming Lily's bridle path, I tended to CB's mysterious eye irritation when has come and gone a couple of times before.

On closer inspection, Roxane suggested that his eyelashes might be causing the problem to flair up.

I noticed when he was young that CB's eyelashes on the left side look slightly abnormal.   Roxane has also noticed that their angle is a little off from the usual.

The theory is that the angle may be causing his eye to get irritated.

So, we'll monitor the situation and keep a closer watch on those lashes.

Happily, Roxane has texted me that his eye is just fine this morning.

If it starts raining later, I'll continue with another batch of jelly and baking some more loaves of bread.

We've been enjoying both the bread and the jelly, so it's important to maintain a good supply of both.

Last night we attended a basketball jamboree at Sandpoint High's Les Rogers Gym.

The event featured teams from Lakeland, Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint.

An entire squad of referees also showed up.  From what we observed, the event was offering a great opportunty for referees-in-training.

For the teams with their new players, the Jamboree provided the perfect time to work out the kinks and to learn some of the protocol which happens during the regular games.

Each team played the other two schools in games lasting two quarters.

Ironically and happily, every team went home a winner.

Coeur d'Alene defeated Lakeland.

Sandpoint defeated Coeur d'Alene.

And, in the final matchup, Lakeland defeated Sandpoint.

There is also some new support equipment at Les Rogers Gym, including an electronic message board with lots of graphics.

I do believe the scorers' table is a new addition to the gym also.

Bill and I enjoyed the games and look forward to Saturday's official season opener for the Sandpoint Bulldogs when they host the Bonners Ferry Badgers.

Those fancy shoes are drawing attention to the feet of SHS Junior Varsity coach Joe Fata.

Bulldog assistant coach Madi Schoening outlines some strategy during last night's Sandpoint-Lakeland game.

One observation I made last night:  Coach Love has a group of happy young ladies.

That should make for a great and fun year ahead.

Good Luck, Bulldogs!

Happy Wednesday.
