Saturday Slight

Life is a lot about friends these days and how much we cherish each visit.

It's a no brainer to do so because we never know when the day will come when we will have no more visits with this friend or that one.

Recent weeks and losses have brought that fact of life to the forefront all too often.

So, yesterday was a bonus day with friends.

It involved two different visits in two different settings.

Bob Gooby, from my old neighborhood, came by early in the afternoon to see us.

Because he has some disabilities, friends take him from place to place on different days of the week. Bob keeps up a busy schedule.

During yesterday afternoon's visit we caught up on Bob's news and shared our updates since Christmas time when Bill had taken him a plate of cookies.

It was a pleasant day for sitting in the shade with this longtime family friend, talking about happenings in our respective lives.

Later, Bill and I went to the Gehring home where we visited with Chad and Kathy (son and mom) who had come for the weekend from the Portland area.

With our mutual friend Ann hosting, it was a lively evening on the deck with Second Avenue pizza, refreshers and other mutual friends.

Chad and I had a wonderful relationship as teacher and student for three years.  During his last year of high school, he served as editor of the school newspaper.

He went on to graduate from the University of Montana and has followed a highly successful career in the tech industry. He also loves spending time with family, including his wife and two children.

We exchanged lots of good and meaningful stories last night, since the last time we saw each other was before the Pandemic.

In between our visits, the banter among the whole group inspired lots of smiles, laughter and good feelings.

Twas a nice day with the great satisfaction of having connected with these people who have had an ongoing positive impact in our lives.

In short, friends are the best, and the more opportunities we have to connect with them the better!

Happy Saturday.

This had to be exciting for the White Sox fans.
