Bring forth the Fourth!
Almost ready for tomorrow's deck and yard party.
Will mow lawn today and do some final touch-ups and then get ready lay out the food and accessories for what is always a fun, busy but relaxing day with family.
As I noted earlier this week, it doesn't take much to get me excited.
The first moment of memorable excitement for today came when I watched baby turkeys "get up" by flying out of the trees in the woods where they had spent the night.
Later, while watering the garden, I watched Ma and Pa Swallow feed their babies.
Little ones would poke their heads out of the bird house, one by one, and then Mom or Dad would swoop down and drop some food in the little waiting beaks.
It was a beautiful and poignant sight to watch.
All too soon, the bird house will be empty as the swallow family goes to wherever they plan to inhabit next.
Mother Nature offers countless beautiful, often ongoing stories if we only pay attention.
Big News!
Sandpoint and anyone who tunes into KRFY (available online) have a treat in store today.
Famed actor Viggo Mortensen will be behind the mike for two hours this afternoon.
Here are the details from KRFY:
He's
been Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings films – and memorable characters
in more than 50 other movies, three of which roles have earned him
Academy Award nominations.
Viggo Mortensen is also an occasional resident here in North Idaho, and
his Perceval Press has been a supporter of Sandpoint's community radio
station KRFY
for years.
And now for something new: Tomorrow Mortensen will be be a
guest DJ on KRFY. Tune in Thursday, July 3, from 1 to 3 p.m. as he spins
some of his favorite songs with some musical insight and commentary.
It
airs at 88.5 FM on the radio, or stream it live at www.KRFY.org
💚💛💜💙
Since it's Throwback Thursday, I don't mind posting the link below to an interview I did with Viggo back in 2004 for Sandpoint Magazine.
To say the least, it was a fun gig for a giddy local journalist, especially because it received worldwide attention.
Hope you enjoy.

Willie (above) and Andrew (below) went on a guided fishing trip on the Kootenai River yesterday.
When he's not directing the SHS band, Willie's colleague Aaron Gordon runs Long Drift Outfitters, a guiding service for anglers.
From the looks of the photos, Willie and Andrew had a good time on the river.
