One Full Day

Mountain View German Baptist Church is quickly taking shape just off from Colburn-Culver Road east of Sandpoint.

With temperatures reaching the mid-90s, work on the building roof went on into late afternoon yesterday.

A few days ago, just one side panel stood on the foundation.

All of the above construction has happened since the weekend.

Wes, a minister who oversees the local church congregation, told Bill and me that it would probably be spring before church services begin.

This part is usually about 25 percent of the finished product, he noted.

For now, workers and church friends will continue to come from all over the region to help construct the church.

Brad Miller, who owns Selle Valley Creamery, was focusing on installing windows yesterday.

To beat the 90-plus-degree heat, we planned an afternoon drive yesterday.  Turns out that Willie and Andrew were headed to Lightning Creek to fish.

So, that's where we went also.

We caught up with them a few miles up the road.  They had not yet done any fishing and had decided to move further up the road before they did.

It was nice to see Andrew, a Boeing engineer, after another year has passed.  He, his wife Alicia and their daughter Emma always come over to Sandpoint for the week of the Fourth.

So, we'll see more of them as the week unfolds.

After leaving Willie and Andrew, we drove on, stopping a couple of times to let the dogs out of the truck.

The entire drive was beautiful and relatively quiet.  We're guessing that, starting today, the camping crowds will start to assemble in both the Lightning Creek and Trestle Creek drainages.

So, our timing was good, and we stayed cool most of the afternoon.

Our afternoon drive had to stay on schedule yesterday because visitors were coming in the early evening.

We hadn't seen our grandnephew Jacob for a couple of years, so when he called and wondered if we would be home in the evening, I happily said yes.

Jacob was bringing his girl friend Lily to meet us AND to meet our Lily.

We spent time on the deck catching up.

Yesterday was fairly significant because Jacob and his family had stayed the night of July 1, 2006, when they helped us move into our home and establish the Lovestead.

Jacob had ridden in the UTV as a child but had never driven it.

Last night he did, taking Lily on a spin through the woods.

And, of course, Lily met Lily.

It was fun to see Jacob and to meet Lily, who is a very nice and fun young lady.

Twas definitely an action-packed and fun day yesterday.

Now, it's back to work in somewhat cooler temps, getting ready for the big deck party on Friday.

Happy Wednesday.
