A quirky photo for the fair, a brand new baby calf, Woods German sausage cooked on a campground grill---all vivid memories of Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025.
That quirky photo? It took about five hours to prepare it for Bill to enter in the fair. Most of those hours involved waiting.
I sent the photo to Wal-Mart and paid for one-hour processing. Almost an hour later, Wal-Mart sent me an email saying the processing would be delayed and that they'd let me know when the photos were ready.
So, I waited and found other projects to do while frequently checking my email.
When no email had arrived three hours later, I drove to Wal-Mart. That's when I learned their printer was down, and, yes, they knew other people also wanted photos printed for the fair.
When I asked if they had any photo printing paper, the clerk directed me to the paper aisle, saying that if they did have it, I would find it there.
No luck.
Before heading home dejected that Bill's photo wasn't going to make it to the fair on time, I called Staples and asked about photo paper.
Yes, they had it.
So, I picked up a package and brought it home to hurry the project along. This is where one distraction occurred. When I turned on to our road, I had to stop because a mama cow had just given birth to her calf. Can't miss taking a picture of that lovely scene.
Once home, I printed off the picture, matted it and sent Bill to the fair. He hasn't entered anything in the fair since 1980, so I think they had to issue him a new exhibitor number.
As usual, Bill had a good time visiting with friends while entering his photo.
Before leaving, Bill asked if I'd like to go to Sam Owen Campground where he would cook up some Wood's German sausages and we could simply relax and enjoy the views.
That sounded like a great idea.
Occasionally, I get so wound up tight with my "to do's," that I just have to go away somewhere and do my best to forget that such a word as "responsibility" exists. That challenge in itself is sometimes too much responsibility.
But I managed.
We headed to Hope and took the dogs with us. Sam Owen was busy with swimmers, boaters, and beach gathering but quiet and peaceful at the same time. Toward the end of our stay, our friend Ann came by with her dog Sky, and we enjoyed a nice visit with her.
All in all, it was nice and relaxing afternoon getaway after a semi chaotic beginning to the day.
Our drive home at dusk was nothing short of spectacular with multitude of colorful clouds floating through in the orange evening sky and the lake alive with reddish reflections rippling within the waves.
Last week, when we enjoyed our hours of fishing Lake Pend Oreille on a charter boat, I put together a photographic reel, which chose the song "Summer Breeze" as its accompaniment.
The tune has been playing in my mind ever since---maybe cuz it's summer and we've definitely had a breeze or two, but also because it creates a dreamy and moody memory of a good time recreating.
So, I'm going to use that Seals and Croft song again today. Just click on the video and listen as you scroll through the photos, and maybe enjoy a breeze blowing through "the jasmine of your mind."
Happy Sunday.
