Ireland, Fall 2025; Day Six

Benbulbin in County Sligo, Ireland, also known as Yeats Country, honoring poet W.B. Yeats.

Benbulbin is an iconic scene of the area, often appearing in travel photos of Ireland.

It's a hiking area but said to be a bit challenging and hazardous on its north side because of fierce winds and storms from the Atlantic.

We have stopped here on past trips but yesterday just drove by the site of Nobel prize-winning poet W.B. Yeats tomb at Drumcliffe.

Old Love's above, on the road in Ireland, destination Clifden on the west coast of Ireland in Connemara to meet the Young Love's below.

Yes, I had my cataracts removed a couple of years ago, but I often wear two sets of glasses, one for the sun, the other to see things up close.

Willie and Debbie flew into Dublin from
Seattle overnight, rented a car and drove to Clifden where we reconnected at Sharamore House and then headed off to dinner at Manions.

The town is full because there's a 5-day Connemara Pony Sale at the beautiful facility on the edge of town.

We're hoping to take a trip into town today to see the horse show before heading north to Westport.

Our reconnecting in Clifden last night was a happy time with great culinary satisfaction.

There's not a laundry lounge in Clifden, but there is a place where we can get our clothes washed and folded, and after a week of traveling, it's time.

Sue continued to come to the door, even with an ugly monster peering at her through the window.

Sue and her husband John own Sharamore House near Clifden where we stay on most of our trips to Ireland.

Sue's pancakes at breakfast have been the draw for many people who are repeat visitors.

John helps Sue with the breakfast menu and spends many of his days taking anglers out on ocean fishing adventures.

Sue spends part of every single day taking a swim in the ocean.

The Daylight Savings change to standard time occurred overnight in Ireland.  That means we'll have time changes twice on this trip.  Whatever the case, it means twice having an extra hour of sleep, so we won't complain.

It's a challenge keeping track of what time it is where.  My sister who's watching over their farm is keeping track of sister Barbara in Tulsa and us in Ireland as well as time in North Idaho.  Laurie said yesterday she doesn't really know what time it is where, but she definitely knows when it's time to walk the dogs.

Everything is relevant, it seems.

It's a rainy Sunday in Clifden.

We hope to check in on the horse sale and then head north for the rest of the day.

How much time we spend outside will depend on the weather, but we know that whatever we do, it will be a fun experience on this Sunday of a Banker's holiday in Ireland.

Hope everyone has a great day.
