As is customary, Tim Henney made me smile this morning.
It's hard to smile today, thinking of the ongoing senseless violence and hatred in the world, most recently the tragedies at Brown University and the massacre on a beach in Australia.
That said, let's get to Tim. I believe he's 94. If you ever met him, you would not believe he's that old.
I know him almost solely through his wonderful, well-written contributions to the local newspapers. Nonetheless, I have visited with Tim in person twice, both times at DiLuna's Restaurant in Sandpoint.
He's not only an amazing writer, especially when it comes to nostalgia, but he's a fascinating, delightful and thoughtful man whose career took him to the big time and later to retire in Sandpoint.
This morning, as soon as I saw Tim's major opinion piece, which accompanied my longtime friend Pat Gooby's characteristically brief but thoughtful wisdom., I settled into full-fledged reading mode rather than the usual flitting through headlines.
First, however, since Pat's letter doesn't take up much space, I'll share his latest observation.
Boneyard mothballed huge airplanes, both civilian and military,
hundreds of them, maybe thousands, converted to homeless shelters.
Far
fetched, maybe, but think about it.

Now that Pat has you thinking about winged homeless shelters, I'll direct you to a link which features Tim's nostalgic take on the Christmas season.
It's a nice read penned by a nice man.
It's always uplifting to see both of these Sandpoint sage's names on our opinion page. They share their wisdom and often make us smile.
And, while I'm at it about "old" friends, let me send a birthday shout-out to my longtime colleague and family friend Rick Gehring.
Rick, a remarkable math teacher at Sandpoint High School, turned 82 today.
Life is not easy for him these days physically, but every so often his wife Ann posts a photo of Rick and that big smile is still making others smile.
While Bill and Tom and Sharon Walton (all music lovers) enjoyed the jazz at Preservation Hall, Rick and Ann and I (left) each sampled a Hurricane at Pat O' Brien's. We had just met the German couple on the right that night.
It was a "to each his own evening," for sure.
Happy Birthday, Rick. I'm sending you that special love gesture, if ya know what I mean. 😉😉😉😉😉
This is a mundane photo EXCEPT when you consider it's taken in almost mid-December.
The weather report indicates no sign of snow for at least the next several days. Maybe I should plant my garden.
It was a fine and pleasant win last night albeit late.
Plus, it was an entertaining game.
Annie's Photos for Paradise: I think the long weekend in Hawaii is sending today, but she sure has covered the ground. Enjoy a brief escape.
