Tuesday twitter and tumble

The birds are twittering outside, so I'm gonna follow suit. We've got a lot of robins, swallows and sparrows, and they're making some melodious sounds right now. The robins are also having a good time digging through that ugly white clover in the lawn for worms.

Just when we get the pesky dandylions under control, the clover starts in, never growing quite tall enough to reach the lawnmower blades. So, this is the time of the year where a good mowing makes little difference in the lawn appearance; it still looks like it needs cutting cuz those little white blossoms know exactly how to avoid a beheading.

Today we're celebrating two years at the Lovestead. I remember how I could't wait on that hot Saturday back in 2006 and how impatient I was when the previous owners took most of the day to do their final cleaning. I was faunching at the bit to get in here. Finally, after taking nearly two hours to get their donkey loaded with the goats, they took off, heading east to South Dakota.

That moment meant the beginning of a new life for the Loves, and we haven't yet regretted making this move. I seldom return to the old home on Great Northern Road, and when I do drive past the place, I feel nothing. That has always surprised me because I'm such a sentimental slob, but my inner being must have known how happy I was going to be to return to a truly rural existence.

We've enjoyed it here and two years later, still pinch ourselves. I thought that enthusiasm would cease after a few months, but the feeling only intensifies as we slowly add our personal touch to this Heaven we call home. When the storage shed/shop is finished, we'll waste no time putting up another stretch of white board fence along the west and south lawns. Then, the scenario of what we originally envisioned will be complete.

From that point on, it will be maintenance and subtle improvements here and there with gardening, yardwork, hay production and tree growth taking precedent. Of course, the horses will continue to be a fixture along with the dogs and the visitors who get dragged out to the God Tree to sign the Lodgepole Society Logbook.

Two years down, and all is well.

Two weeks into "I Survived a Japanese Game Show," and all is weller than originally thought. I must remind masochistic television viewers that it should be worth turning that dial to ABC again at 9 p.m. PST cuz another Selle-ite may show her face again this week. No details from my sources but assurances that "it's not over yet."

And, yes, Darcy lives in the Selle area, so we must follow her 60 minutes of fame. I even saw her picture in an Associated Press article in the Sunday paper, so the fame appears to be residual beyond the tube.

We had horse switcheroo again yesterday, and Lefty's taking the brunt end of the deal. Laurie traded Aunt Reyvan for Lily so she can work Lily every day in her indoor arena. That's in preparation for her coming out party at the Spots of Fun Open Horse Show July 12-13.

So, Aunt Reyvan, who's about 24, returned to the Lovestead. Aunt Reyvan, however, had never been one-on-one with Lefty, so she decided to play rank. She's been chasing the poor little guy all over the place, and when they've been in the barnyard, she's kept him confined to a barn stall.

This morning the tables turned a bit, though, cuz Aunt Cochie kinda likes her little adopted friend. She decided she'd had enough of Reyvan, and she can make some mean faces and switch a punishing tail smack dab into a mad mare's face. So, fortunately, for Lefty, there's some relief and maybe even a little freedom to enjoy his own barnyard.

All in a day's happenings here at the Lovestead. Have a nice Tuesday.
