Tuesday twitter and tumble

White fingers of snow are reaching down from the top of Schweitzer this morning. They contrast nicely with the mixture deep green evergreens and golden larch. I doubt the snow will last long because we're going to be back in the '60s this week.

An absolutely splendid autumn weather forecast means more outside enjoyment over the next week to ten days. I love it!

This morning my friend Helen is coming at 10:45. Then, we'll either walk or drive over to Geneva Meserve's for the October meeting of the Selle Club.

Helen Method Newton, now a Sandpoint City Council member, spent her childhood out here in Selle. Her folks had a dairy over on Colburn -Culver Road. That's what they call it now, but us oldtimers like to call it the Farm-to-Market Road.

Maybe, if the economy continues to tank, farming will come back in vogue, along with the road name.

Helen tells me she has a City of Sandpoint tree committee meeting this morning before she comes out here to the country. Well, Bill just left to go to the tree committee meeting. So, it looks like Helen's gonna get more than she bargained for today with the Love family. We'll try to treat her nice.

I'm having one of those good weeks when no deadlines are nagging me. That's good in some ways, bad in others because while I'm not enduring inner nagation about deadlines, I'm not earning any money. But ya know what---it's okay.

I've thoroughly enjoyed taking time to thoroughly rototil my garden rather than rushing through it to get on to the next thing. Yesterday I cut a bunch of mini apples in half and dumped them in the kettle to simmer for apple jelly. Also baked some brownies.

Now, if you really want to LOVE your brownies, do this: get yourself two boxes of Betty Crocker fudge brownie mix, follow the directions. Once you've poured the batter into your pyrex pan, cover it with a coat of white chocolate chips, and then bake. Guaranteed GOOD.

Florine, thanks for the raspberry recipe. I think I'm going to include it in my collection to give to the ladies in the Selle Club who are helping out with an countywide extension club cookbook. I'll give 'em that pear recipe too and the Best Damn Pumpkin Dessert Period recipe, which inspired you to send me the pear recipe.

I've noticed lately that a lot of folks have been visiting my blog to get that pumpkin recipe, which I posted two years ago on Oct. 27, 2006.

If you want to copy it down, go to the search mechanism on the left at the top of this blog page, type in "best damn pumpkin dessert, period," and it will take you to that posting. Scroll down; it's right under the "Flies in the Fixtures" post. Howz that for appetizing!

Upon visiting that pumpkin-dessert site the other day, I noticed a comment sent in by a guy named Matthew who gave the recipe to his girlfriend whose daughter was entering a cooking contest where everything needed to be made with pumpkin.

He googled and found the recipe on my blog, gave it to the girlfriend and later received an email that the daughter won best of show in the contest. He said he scored BIG POINTS with the girlfriend. Amazing what a good recipe can do for a love life!

I'm taking those brownies to the Selle Club meeting today, along with my recipes. Which brings to mind. If anyone out there has Selle roots (and I know you do, Julie) and have recipes you'd like to submit for the cookbook, send 'em my way.

When the cookbook is published, all profits will go toward the Bonner County Fair Foundation and its projects, so you can satisfy a lot of stomachs with your tasty recipes and help with improvements at the local fair.

I guess it's time to quit twittering and continue on with the enjoyment of taking life at a semi-relaxing state. Winter and more work will come soon enough.

Have a great day wherever you are.
