Yesterday was a day filled with meaningful connections. A visit to the high school reaped a myriad of short visits with former colleagues as well as news that my beloved former student and friend Jeralyn got run over by a cow.
And, that cow came from South Center Valley Road. I promise not mention that she grew up in Jack Filipowski's herd of Herefords. Seems the Mires bought the heifer and there was some vaccinating going on. Jeralyn happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and by the time the cow had gone along her way, Jeralyn had sustained a broken bone in her leg along with some ankle injuries.
I talked with Jeralyn on the phone and learned that she's having surgery today and will have to stay off her leg for several weeks. I've promised to spend some time entertaining her while she heals. Haven't heard how the cow is doing.
Jeralyn, we're hoping all goes well with your surgery this morning.
I enjoyed the time spent in the SHS Model United Nations class where the kids were playing dress-up, as described in the captions below.
Also saw my ol' buddy Bill Barlow, who's now retired and working a couple of days a week for a sporting goods store in Coeur d'Alene. He was passing through the high school about the same time I was admiring Patsy's Bulldog collection below.
The horse photo came from a few days ago when the fog was pretty darned dense, but watching horses cavort in the mist it a sight to behold.
Finally, the day was topped off with a wonderful, unexpected visit to the Lovestead by Kathy Allen Conger (hope I have it right, Kathy). Kathy (in the above photo) was one of my Ponderettes who graduated in 1976.
She and her husband have moved back to Sandpoint after several years in Bozeman where he was a general practitioner.
Kathy called wanting a book for the Festival of Trees, which benefits Kinderhaven. So, we played a little catch-up on each other's lives since the days when the Loves would have the drill team out for the end-of-the-year picnic and Bill's annual harmonica serenade.
We're looking forward to lots of good visits ahead, especially because we discovered that we live in almost the same neighborhood.
Great day of wonderful connections.
