Tuesday Twitterdeedee

I love taking evening walks around our yard these days with my camera.  Seems like every day some new brilliant color blasts on to the scene.

It's lily time, and many of our lilies are located in dark places among the other shrubs and flowers.  So, their sudden appearance is often surprising and stunning.

I discovered the lilies in the lower photo last night while mowing the front yard.  So, of course, the camera came out.

I'd say we're definitely entering the season of bountiful abundance also.

Pea picking yesterday netted more than a gallon of plump pods from my 8-foot high plants (no joke).

Picking took about half an hour in the morning and shelling them later in the afternoon took up another hour.

Two packets of peas went into the freezer.  I'll say it again:  growing peas is hardly a time efficient process.

We have enough pea plants this year to keep me picking and shelling for some time.

They'll add up and this winter it will be nice to pull out a sack of peas, boil 'em up,  throw on some salt, pepper and butter and enjoy the flavor as they roll down the throat.

We've been enjoying strawberry sundaes, in spite of the fact that our strawberry crop didn't look so good earlier.  The berries have emerged in the deep grass, and, happily,  there are a lot more than first anticipated.

Blueberries are just now ripening, but it looks like we'll have  good crop.

My lettuce has gone crazy, and it's about to go to seed.  We keep eating salads, but can't quite keep up with what's in the garden.

I'll probably be planting new rows of  lettuce soon in hopes of it lasting through the fall.

In other twitterdeedees, Bill and Debbie are teaming up today on a presentation at Camp Stidwell.  This week local Girl Scouts are attending a day camp.

This afternoon they'll be introduced to the sport of geocaching.  Debbie has rounded up the GPS's, and Bill spent yesterday afternoon planting some caches around the camp.

Also, of geocaching interest, Annie has begun her countdown.  I believe today is "13" days remaining until she flies to Europe for another GeoCoinfest in Portugal.

Of course, some touring is on her docket, including Spain, (maybe Morocco) and Germany.

It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it.

It's July 17, officially after the "middle of July."   We do know "where" the Byway is, and it's been 18 days since our community celebration of its completion, so WHEN is the Byway going to open?

Anybody?  Anybody?

Is it going to open?

Anybody?  Anybody?  [UPDATE:  This just in from a valued source:  Friday, July 27]. We'll see.

I'd be thrilled if I learned, upon posing this question for the second time,  that a "soft opening" occurred down in the Byway district this morning.

Guess that's enough for today cuz nothing else is simmering in my brain.  So, I'll sign out and wish everyone a happy Tuesday.
