Deck Party and Doggie Fun

Hastily planned but oh so fun!  That's how our deck party turned out last night.  I think we made calls at 3:30 p.m. and told folks, "Bring whatever you want to barbecue and come at 5:30."

So, they did, along with their dogs.  That meant that we had seven people to dine on barbecue, grilled up by Bill, our barbecuer-in-chief.

Then, we had seven dogs ready to run and have fun.  During the meal, six were confined in the dog run/tied to front-yard trees during the first-ever full-fledged party on our new deck.

But little Foster had the run of the yard and the deck.  His talents for begging paid off several times.

After stuffing ourselves with chicken, Wood's German sausages, Wood's hamburgers and the trimmings, we retired to the hay field, where dogs had a great time racing through the grass.

It was a big night for Laurie's Red Heeler Jessie who has not quite reached the "trust" level as a "liberated" woman."

Run free she did last night, though, and we held our breath a few times, but with "Here, Jessie, here, Jessie" from several voices, she always came back.

Border Collies and Foster know the hay field drill:  find some object, hold on to it until someone takes it out of your mouth and throws it.  Then, run, run, run to be the first to fetch.

The Red Heelers were meeting some of the Border Collies for the first time, so they were a bit shy about the games, but it was a very amiable group of canines----"civilized," I like to call them.

It was a spontaneous party on a gorgeous evening, and a good time was had by all---14 of us.

Happy Monday.

Many great parties and gatherings are often unplanned. I had many of these with my friends, and we've always ended up having a blast. This is what you just had too. And enjoying that get-together on your deck made everything feel laid-back. It's amazing to think that a house's structure can influence the mood of an event. Angelina Garcia

Deck party? That's cool! Just one of the many leisure activities you can enjoy in your backyard. A house that has decks, or any expansions, makes for a very welcoming and inviting impression on friends and neighbors and adds value to the home's overall appearance. | Ryann@YanceyCompany.com|

You have the perfect place! A wide grassland and a deck where you can look over your property, not to mention it is also a great combination for outdoor parties. Looks like you had a very energetic and fun-filled day!
