June Blizzard!!

We're having another blizzard---the second or third this week.  And, Bill's going to be out on the lake today in a charter boat.

I hope he escapes all the white stuff that's flying through the air and going all different directions here at the lovestead.

Yup, cottonwood season is upon us, and I'm doped up with Allegra for the day.  Bring it on!

I thought we were going to get off easy with cottonwood fluff stuff because last year the county cut down several big old trees just south of us on North Kootenai Road.

No luck.  The cotton puffs have been relentless, especially when the wind blows.  I just finished mowing most of my lawn yesterday.  It has a layer of white fluff this morning.

Yesterday I started scooping the cotton deposits off from the water in New Big Blue. Got most of them, but there are still enough to keep that water looking pretty gritty.

I put a cover over the pool last night and hope it will deflect any new deposits.

Now, let's talk about vacuuming cottonwood fluffs.  I waited a couple of days for it to build up on our pink carpet.

Not a good idea.  The stuff is sticky, and even the Dyson super "suck it up" had to work extra duty to remove the stubborn white stuff.

I decided after vacuuming yesterday to leave the front door, which has a screen door, shut because those cotton fluffs have a way of finding their way into the house.

Some of them come on the bottoms of shoes, and that's apparent by the new deposit near the brick floor around the stove where we kick off our shoes.

In addition to the house mess and the white lawn, I tried to deflect those fluffs from my eyes by wearing sunglasses even when the sun went down.

Forget that!  Again, the stuff is persistent in its quest to make life as miserable as possible, and, yes, my eyes are gritty and will probably stay that way until the blizzards cease.

In the meantime, summertime and the livin' are pretty okay.

Last night three quarters of the salad fixin's came from the garden---swiss chard, baby spinach, lettuce, Walla Walla sweet onions and the best radishes I've grown in years.

I threw in a little store bought lettuce cuz I didn't want to rob the small garden stuff too much just yet.

And, speaking of summertime, the blizzard wasn't too bad earlier this morning cuz I could clearly see the yellow school bus doing its morning rounds for the last time this school year.

With hands above my head on my daily walk, I clapped and did a thumbs up for the driver who passes me twice every morning.

A huge smile and wave greeted me.

So, good luck to all students, bus drivers, teachers and staff who say good bye to school for a few weeks and begin their time taking on the summer blizzards of the cottonwood variety.

Happy Friday.  Bill should be out there in the Dead Sea fishing by now.  He did take loaves with him.  Let's hope he gets some fishes, which is a possibility cuz he's angling for big ones with his Presbyterian minister.
