Saturday AM in West Selle, Mostly
Another slight detour on this quiet Saturday but still in Selle---West Selle, that is.
On the other side of HWY 95 from us, Selle Road turns into a dirt road, so I decided to walk it this morning.
Sand Creek meanders through the pastures and wooded areas along this route.
I walked past the old Thad Hunt dairy, where beautiful aryshire cows once kept Thad on a tight schedule before his days of living and raising horses on another farm on Selle Road proper across the highway.
I can remember a 4-H field trip to Thad's dairy farm, and what most impressed me at the time was how immaculate every aspect of the dairy was. I don't think I've seen a dairy quite like that since.
And, the place is pretty idle and tired-looking these days, but there's farming going on, and the huge fields of tansey from the years after Thad owned the place have turned into grass lands for Wood family cattle.
As I walked up the road and crossed the railroad tracks, I looked to the south, down another long familiar dirt road called North North Boyer.
Willie and Debbie live down that road, and they enjoy hiking the mountain trails behind their home and walking along Sand Creek to the east.
I talked briefly to Charlie Brown. Apparently, Peanuts wasn't up yet. He was out painting an airplane this morning.
My route took me up a private road that leads into a development. Not a lot going on up that road, so it was a very peaceful walk.
On the way back to my car, I embraced and savored the wonderful fragrance of newly mown clover in a yard area along the road.
Then, it was back home to grab a quick shot of this year's lupine crop and to read about all the awful stuff going on in the world outside our peaceful Selle sanctuaries.
And, with that reading done for another day, I'm grateful for life in Selle.
Happy Saturday.
