A Three-Horse Farm, For a While

Trekehner is a light warmblood breed of horse originally developed at the East Prussian state stud farm in the town of Trakehnen from which the breed takes its name.  ~~~Wikipedia

Mojave, a Trekehner,  pictured above,  will be living at the Lovestead for a while to make room for his owner to take in another dressage horse for training.

He arrived last night with his owners, stepped out of the trailer and walked to the barnyard, where he will stay for a couple of days before having a chance to graze a part of each day in the pasture.

He'll also get acquainted with and probably pal around with Lefty, second from the bottom.

When that happens, Lefty will take on a "pony" look for a while.  Lefty stands about 14.3 hands tall (a hand is four inches).

Mojave stands 17.3 hands tall.  That would be 71 inches at the withers, one inch shy of 6 feet. Then add the height of his head and neck.

His feet are big as is his bone, but when that big boy switches into his trotting gear, his action is breath-taking and graceful.  That's a good trait for a dressage horse.

Anyway, our visitor has retired as a champ from the dressage show ring.  Now, he gets to eat at his pleasure and observe the world around him.

Lily and Lefty seem to be okay with the new tenant.  It was a pretty quiet night all around.

For anyone who doesn't spend time around horses, those are fly masks, and none of the horses mind wearing them, thanks to this year's intense bug population.

And, Miss Kea, our Border Collie perimeter dog:  she's in Heaven with her new duty of patroling the barnyard fence line to ensure that the new kid on the block stays on the block.

We're not too worried, and we're pleased to have him around to admire and to love for the next several weeks.

Welcome, Mojave, to the Lovestead.

Too bad he's not a stud... he and Lily could produce some nice Nez Perce babies!
