A Great Time to Be a Pumpkin Lover

If you're local and you love all things autumn and all things pumpkin and all things with a truly rural, you need to drive to Hickey's Farm on Hickey Road, just off HWY 200 east of Kootenai and before the Colburn-Culver turn-off.

It's worth the trip.  You can purchase pumpkins of all shapes and sizes and colors.  You can fill yourself with goodies from the latte wagon or from the various vendors in the barn---carameled apples and Traci Albertson Roos' "to die for" cupcakes.  Yes, better eaten with a fork as demonstrated by little Oliver.

You can also purchase other produce.  I saw squashes, cucumbers and tomatoes, for example.

And who knows whom you may meet out there.  I visited with old friends, saw a set of local triplets for the first time in a couple of years and took a few pictures of a long-married couple closely associated with the farm.  Jackie Hickey Holt grew up there, and now her children are engaged in the wonderful new event for our area.

Jim told me they figured they wanted something in the Sandpoint area that resembled Green Bluff near Spokane.

I'm thinking they have a very nice start, and we in the Selle Valley couldn't be more thrilled.

It's definitely a "must see" and "must experience" event.  They'll be open again today.

So, go check it out.  Heck, you'll even see all the runs of beautiful Schweitzer Mountain in the background.

Happy Sunday.  May the great pumpkin spirit take you to this heavenly spot.
