Outside the TV show "Tanked" headquarters with other geocachers. |
Taken especially for our grand nephew Jacob. |
Most of our day yesterday was spent tracking down several "lab" caches, placed around the Las Vegas area in honor of the GeoCoinfest. Lab caches are temporary, with simple signs posted at a location to signify "a find."
The general theme of these half dozen or so caches was "As Seen on TV." So, we visited the famous Las Vegas pawn shop, which, of course, involved waiting in line and wondering if "Chumlee" would be there.
Only Chumlee T-shirts, hats, mugs, etc. greeted us inside. We enjoyed visiting with a New York City couple----according to the wife, the husband watches the pawn show "24-7." So, they were maybe more excited than Bill.
Bill recorded a cache at the Las Vegas wedding chapel with the drive-in window. We walked in.
We visited other venues seen on TV reality shows, including four restaurants featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." In all cases, we could see why they earned a spot on the show. Funky, great food and wonderful local color.
A highlight was meeting "the general" from Animal Planet's "Tanked." The general was quite "GENerous" with his time and even happily posed for some photos.
Occasionally we ran into other geocachers on the same mission. Later, we met a few at the "meet and greet," but today will be all things "geocache" as the Mega Event gets underway a little later this morning.
Happy Saturday.
It was a fun day, and we did more than our share of walking. I'm guessing at least five or six miles.
