Saturday Slight

Big sports weekend ahead.  Willie will be with the Bulldogs when they head out for Moscow around noon.

ZAGS play at 1 p.m.,  and, of course, tomorrow folks in this household,  along with a whole lot of others,  are hoping for a Seahawks win and their second trip to the Super Bowl.  [Thanks, editors, for setting me straight]!

I see from this morning's paper that there will be special meaning with tomorrow's game for one local family, the Rokstad's.  Their daughter Danae, a University of Montana graduate,  will perform as one of the Seahawk cheerleaders aka Sea Gals.

As of last night, the game took on a little more meaning for us too.  Our daughter Annie will be one of the fans in the stands.

She bit the bullet yesterday and bought a ticket, rationalizing the expense with the fact that the game also includes a halftime concert with the Seattle rapper and Emmy nominated Macklemore.

We're planning a Seahawks Sunday eating fest here at the house with hopes that this year's Super Bowl party on Feb. 2 will lead to another festive gathering.

GO SEAHAWKS!  I still think a Seatte-Denver contest would make a fun Super Bowl.  And, by the way, speaking of Sandpoint connections, some of those horses seen in the popular Budweiser commercials during the Super Bowl, come from a couple of miles down the road from us.

The fascinating story featuring the beautiful ranch just around the big curve on Selle Road hit the media this week:  http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/world/57391736-68/parnell-budweiser-clydesdales-horses.html.csp

Among the other activities on this busy weekend, there's a benefit concert at the Panida tonight.

Here's the scoop, straight from POAC:  Nate Owen & Brenden McCoy will be opening for BLUESTREAK at the Panida Theater on Saturday, January 18, 2014.

All the proceeds from this concert go directly support Pend Oreille Arts Council's programs in visual & performing arts and art education for the benefit of our community.

Tickets available at POAC office and POAC website.

Admissions are $12 for pre-sale & POAC member, $10 for student, and $15 at the door.

Join us for the night of Bluegrass. Bring your family and friends!

As if that's not enough, Willie tells me the Bulldog basketball teams will be playing Lewiston Monday at SHS gym.

The weekend almost needs a planning book, and that is always good during January.

Happy Saturday.  GO ZAGS.  GO BULLDOGS. GO SEAHAWKS.  GO BRONCOS

I read your blog pretty much daily and know that often write about wonderful places to get lunch sandwiches up in that area. It's a bit last minute and you may not check your blog til i'm already on the road, but I am headed up that way today from Spokane and wondered if you could again name some of the local spots you get delicious lunch sandwiches at?

You caught me at the computer. Love the sandwiches at the Hydra, especially the BLT and fries. Plan to take a doggy bag home. Very reasonably priced for what you have on the plate.

Second Avenue Pizza has a great avocado, bacon sandwich with salad. Had that last night. My sisters each took home half a calzone last night. Those are great too.

The Irish Pub Burger and just about anything you pick at Mick Duff's Irish Pub on First Avenue are great.

Those are my favorites, but it's hard to go wrong in Sandpoint. Enjoy the sights and the calories! :)
