Saturday Slight

On Sandpoint's waterfront:

two huge events today. . . .

Celebrate Life coordinator Julie Walkington, right, says, "We're ready."

That's her sister , the late Jenny Jacobson Meyer, whose courageous spirit has driven the Celebrate Life fun run/walk/bike ride to raise thousands and thousands of dollars to help out local cancer patients.

The event begins at 9 a.m. at Dog Beach.

Pend Oreille Arts Council's  (POAC) annual Arts and Crafts Fair is set up at City Beach and ready to open at 10 a.m. today.  The two-day event runs from 10-6 today and from 10-4 tomorrow.

Besides the booths featuring fabulous samples of arts and crafts, this event offers entertainment throughout the day and seven food booths.  Plus, there's a special booth with organized activities for kids.

The photos below show some of  yesterday's set-up by POAC staff and board of directors.

Debbie  (POAC executive director) and Willie Love, the heavy lifter.

Staff member Kaori Parkinson and board member Judy Thompson (the veteran organizer for each year's arts and crafts fair.

Volunteers talking about booth arrangement.

Artist/photographer and pelican lover Diane Ward from Post Falls with Debbie Love.
She's among the 100 or so vendors who will be offering their specialized talents today.

Heck, I even heard there's a blueberry booth, featuring berries of local growers.

Finally, some information for anyone wishing to help out the VanDenBerg family.  Suzy Coen VanDenBerg, a Selle resident and one of my former students, has been dealing with an ongoing medical issue and will face an extended period of therapy once her condition is stabilized.

Of course, the medical expenses have been extensive.  I'll provide more information Monday about an upcoming fundraiser in her behalf, but today, I'll simply leave you with a link to learn more about donating to an online fund.

For those who don't feel comfortable with online donations, Suzy's daughter Natalie has provided the following information:

I have opened a P.O. Box address for those of you have expressed that you would like to donate but feel uncomfortable doing so online. You will have to make the check out to me, Natalie Vandenberg, because the account set aside for the fund is in my name.
