Saturday Slight

Moreen Leen

Swiss Miss sez, "Go ZAGS," and did they ever last night!

It wasn't too cold for bald eagles to sit on a limb and enjoy the scenery, but it sure was cold when I took the picture yesterday afternoon.

We don't know if there was a glitch on the TV weather report, or if everyone but that one station has been lying to us about more frigid days.

I'm tending to believe the glitch theory because it does not feel one bit like we'll be in the 50s today.  That same weather report predicted 56 on Tuesday.

We weren't really paying attention because we were watching the Gonzaga season opener last night and moseying to the kitchen to fill our plates during the breaks.

Swiss Miss got dressed properly for the occasion.  I'm very anxious to talk with her today and see if all this "Go Zags" training paid off last night as the Bulldogs came away with an impressive win, tallying 104 points.

Pretty exciting team, and it looks to me that they're all so good, they'll play that much harder to make sure they get to play.  That should translate into a strong team.

Anyway, it's another cold but beautiful day.  In fact, I think my fingers underneath my gloves felt more numb during barn cleaning than they have all week.

My dogs are SO happy that I'm back to cleaning barns cuz there's dessert to be had once I empty the cart outside at the manure pile.  Usually, they go back to the house after I put the horses out, but these days it's the patient wait while she works cuz she's gonna drop a new load of apples for us to eat.

Dogs and horse apples----I still don't understand the culinary attraction, but they sure love 'em.

I posted a photo of my friend Moreen Leen this morning because she has been honored this past week for all her contributions as a 4-H leader and perennial volunteer with all things horse.

What a wonderful honor for a wonderful lady, wife, mother, grandma, good friend and all-around dedicated member of our community!

Moreen and the Leen family devote hundreds of hours to horse activities where hundreds of others benefit and have a good time with their horses.

She and her family organize two horse shows each year, and I can tell you that it's a family project, clear down to the garbage man, Moreen's devoted and very humorous husband Kenny.  Actually, Kenny's there to do whatever Moreen asks, as are her children and grandchildren.

And, then there's 4-H.  She has served as a leader forever, and her upbeat attitude about what the members are accomplishing is always impressive.

What makes these state honors bestowed upon Moreen so fitting is that she never seeks the limelight.  She plugs along quietly, attending to details and seeing that all aspects of any project are coordinated for a successful situation.

So, Moreen, I salute you and am so thrilled that the powers-that-be locally and statewide have chosen to recognize you for so many years of devoted volunteerism and good works to benefit the horse-loving community.

In other news, have I mentioned "Dancing with the Stars"?

Well, tonight's the big night, and we, as a family, intend to be at the Panida to cheer Willie and the other five dancers on.

Laurie asked him last night if he'll be wearing stretchy pants with plenty of give so there won't be any apparel breakdowns aka splits/rips as he trots like a fox (iz that what they do in the fox trot?) across the Panida stage.

The family vividly remembers past apparel breakdowns aka splits/rips during significant public events (no names revealed), so that is an item of concern.

Willie assured Laurie that his pants should work.

We're excited. Willie's nervous.  Whatever the case, I'm sure it will be an entertaining evening.

So, GO WILLIE.  Happy Birthday to my niece Maureen.  Happy Saturday.
