One Fine Day

I can't decide what the best part of the day was, but I do know that yesterday's Easter get-together turned out to be another fine family outing for six of us who live in Sandpoint.

It's not quite tradition yet---but close---for us to take an Easter-Sunday trip up through the Kootenai Valley to the picnic tables along Boundary Creek, across from Porthill and within a rock's throw of Canada.

Could be, if we weren't paying attention, some frolicking dogs may have visited Canada, but no alarms went off, and we had no Border Patrol sightings during our progressive afternoon of fun.

The loosely-organized plan consisted of a Super 1 stop, sumptuous picnic complete with attractive Easter posies, fun with pups, a short, strenuous but rewarding hike and delectable dessert of strawberry shortcake enhanced with yogurt and whipped cream.

The weather could not have been more magnificent.  We brought layers and happily shed them as the spring afternoon sunshine warmed our faces and our souls in a spot where each year we're the only outside invaders.

All around us, the natural world of birds and four-legged, swift-footed creatures made brief appearances or kept our ears aware that it certainly is spring in North Idaho: cheeeeezeburger, cheeeezeburger . . . .

We even saw a crop duster gliding up and down over farm fields in the Kootenai Valley, and we waved at a Canadian whose place borders the USA.

After our first eating fest, Bill directed us to an old, old homestead, which, happily, has survived some ambitious logging in an area which butts up against the International border.

Later, after enjoying a rest at the cabin and marveling at the view we had of Creston, British Columbia on our walk down the hillside, we moved on to yet another beautiful Fish and Game picnic area on the Westside Road to top off the day's feasting with that yummy strawberry dessert.

One fine day, indeed.  Now, Spring Break has ended and some of us have switched gears to the work load ahead for this week after Easter.

With snow forecast overnight and snow keeping its promise this morning, a glimmer of hope for a snow day in April has been dashed as that snow quickly melted.

On with Spring and all the great and busy things that come with the season, including the Seattle Mariners season opener.

"Batter up!" and Happy Monday.

 Hope you enjoy the photos.
