Twas a long, long day yesterday, as Bill and I continued our brief escape from snow. Our journey took us to Seattle where fortunately the gates were close for changing planes.
We had exit row seats, each on the aisle. Soon along came my new best friend, Beth, who promptly announced that I would have the honor of seating next to her and her husband Tom.
Twas an honor AND a hoot all the way to Los Angeles. Beth is an Alaskan Airlines flight attendant. Family members who know our cousin Patti Skelton will have pretty good notion of Beth's personality.
The couple were on their way to Mexico for a week's getaway. By the time we reached Los Angeles, tentative plans had been made for Beth and Tom and their Tear Drop trailer to stay at the Lovestead sometime this summer.
I told Beth early on in our meeting that she may have met her match, sitting next to me. Later on, however, I figured I'd met my match AND, according to Beth, my new friend for life.
Beth especially liked our last name LOVE, noting, "I've met some Dick's but never a Love." Well, that has changed.
The flight to Los Angeles sped by. Beth and I are Facebook friends. They went their way; we went ours, securing a rental car, setting up Siri and maneuvering our way out of LA, headed east. It was pretty uneventful and not too frightening.
We were glad to leave behind the pouring rain and see the gray clouds diminish toward welcome blue sky and sun. We've got wind, and that's good with all the wind turbines we passed.
Our route took us to Twenty-Nine Palms where we began some exploring of Joshua Tree National Park and where we met a "still photography" crew on a shoot and very adamant that I not take pictures. Of course, that announcement came after I'd already sneaked a couple of photos.
Who says country-hick paparazzi from good ol' North Idaho can't show up to snow on their desert shoot, anywho????
The food truck folks were a bit more welcoming, even moving the photo bombers (a barricade sign and a table) from in front of their truck so I could take their picture.
We enjoyed a great start to our desert exploration aka snow escape (so sorry to hear there's even more at home). Our day was topped off with a Mexican meal surrounded by a whole lot of good looking buff Marines.
Today it's more desert hiking, clicking and gawking, topped off by back at the motel in time for the ZAGS game at the West Coast Tournament. We'll be watching, praying and hoping for a great start for the Bulldogs.
Happy Saturday. GO, ZAGS!!!!
