BRRRRRR! Dang Cold

Another morning here in Selle when I'm really glad we no longer live on Great Northern Road.

Yes, the wind is brutally cold and it's whipping and gusting pretty much everywhere around the place.

Still, it's nothing compared to what I'm betting that long driveway of ours looks like this morning.

I'm betting it's packed shut or close to it.

Our driveway was such a victim of relentless north winds that we even had days when we would be incredulous that district officials did not call off school.

Once we made our way to the end of the driveway and saw that the road to the north and the south was easily passable, it was obvious our driveway had to be one of the worst places in the county for gusty winds.

Anyway, it's bitter cold outside and the wind is whipping up some drifts but nothing extraordinary.

I have a feeling Selle Road (running east and west) has a few interesting spots this morning.

Also, as I type, occasional crashes of deck chairs add to the sound of melodious chimes brought into action by gusts passing through.

It's looking this morning like our "easy peasy" winter has escalated into a much more serious, determined force, bent on reminding us that nothing is ever that easy in North Idaho.

So, today we'll bundle up, go outside and do what needs to be done and then return to a cozy living room, content to watch a college basketball game or two or three.

I noticed that the Love bunch plus Emma in Seattle is making the most of a weekend in the big city.  They're hanging out in a downtown hotel and taking in the fun stuff where "snowmagedden" doesn't seem to be too bad.

Of course, all things are relative, and winter conditions that seem like no big deal here can be devastating to the folks in Seattle and other Northwest urban areas.

I hope you enjoy the photos of the phenomena that often occur along the rock walls bordering the highways around here.

One can travel for nearly a mile, enjoying the sight of giant and exquisite icicle clusters east Priest River on HWY 2.  I believe some similar scenes can be seen near Clark Fork.

They are pretty magnificent this year, to say the least.

Anyway, it's cold.  It's winter.  And, it's time to hang out in front of the TV while staying warm.

It's also Game Day.

The Bulldogs play their longtime rival St. Mary's tonight at 7 p.m PST on ESPN2.

GO, ZAGS!
