It was a day filled with history, current events, storm aftermath, outdoor enjoyment, pop culture and even some new friends.
Happily, the sun came out for our first full day in San Diego, and we took advantage of every minute.
We visited the USS Midway Museum, we walked in a state park along the U.S.--Mexico border and we saw the mess and mud caused from severe flooding the day before.
Bill stood next to a bronze statue of entertainer Bob Hope as one liners for the troops reminded us of how the Hollywood legend made a point of visiting U.S. armed forces around the world.
A highlight for us and for Facebook readers came when we visited the popular In-n-Out Burgers not too far from our hotel.
Like DICKS Hamburgers in Spokane, the In-n-Out California burger experience is a happening.
Line-ups of hungry patrons extending out of the parking lots and out of the restaurant door keep those smiling In-n-Out servers busy as bees.
While enjoying our lunch, we also enjoyed meeting Joann and Patti, who were apparently attending a convention.
Lovely, warm and friendly women, so much so, photos were needed. For college basketball fans, Joann has a nephew who signed with Duke and who will play guard next year.
Google Boogie Ellis.
We know his aunt.
We drove to a state park near the border and walked---carefully so---along the road which was flooded in several spots.
Our goal was to see that portion of border fence always featured on TV, which extends into the ocean.
Flooding, however, had filled a portion of the road so much with muddy water that we chose to save our shoes.
We met folks along the way who had come for exactly the same reason we had: to see it.
That is all about the wall.
We also enjoyed dinner at a Mexican Restaurant in San Ysidro.
After all the rain and flooding, we feel fortunate to have have nice weather for our visit. More blue sky today.
Of course, sure to be a highlight of the trip, the ZAGS tip off against the San Diego Toreros tonight at 7 p.m. at the Jenny Craig Pavillion.
We'll be there. Should be fun.
GO, ZAGS! Happy Saturday.
Above and Below: Caravans along the Border.
No duct tape.
