Weekend Wrap

Green Book won the 2019 Academy Award for Best Picture.

Bill and I are thrilled.

I'd wager that a lot of other locals who've seen the movie are too.

We were also especially happy when Viggo Mortensen (who lives in the area when he's not making movies) received recognition from his director for being crucial to the success of the movie.

Bill and I sat through the entire Academy Awards program last night and quietly cheered every time someone involved with Green Book received an award.

For those who have not yet seen this wonderful film, you have a treat in store.

You will laugh a lot, you will travel back in time and in history and you will cry.

It is that good.

We have not seen any of the other films nominated for Best Picture in this year's Oscars, but we've heard high praise for all of them.  So, we're hoping to see at least some of them while they're still at theaters.

Besides Green Book's accolades, I loved the Lady Gaga-Bradley Cooper performance, which involved deep emotions AND a necklace worth $30 million dollars.

Don't know if I'd ever move if someone stuck $30 million around my neck.

Wonder what the insurance tag is for both the jewelry and the person when that necklace comes out of wherever it lives most of the time.

I'll bet with all those carats, the necklace is pretty heavy. Speaking of heavy, a dress weighing 42 pounds.  Yup, if you didn't catch it, that's what Glenn Close's weighed.

I also loved Spike Lee's leap onto and embrace of one of Samuel L. Jackson on stage after winning an Oscar.

We're looking forward to seeing Spike and Samuel and Charles Barkley in their hilarious commercials during March Madness.

And, the lady who won Best Actress was pretty dang witty.

We thoroughly enjoyed the annual marathon of movie recognition.

Knowing we'd be couching it in the evening, I asked Bill if he wanted to get out of the house for a while and go for a drive.

He happily said yes, and I must report that he's improved 100 percent on his trip from the house to the pickup.

We drove old HWY 2 along Deep Creek and along the west side of the National Wildlife Refuge, stopping at headquarters where I used the restroom, simply because I could.

Last two times we were up there the government was shut down, so, for me, it was more a matter of principle than urgent need.

Twas a lovely and leisurely drive through the area which has at least three times as much snow as a month ago when we went snowshoeing.

We also took a couple of short side roads and enjoyed some nice winter scenes in the majestic and always beautiful Kootenai Valley.

No big, long-running television on the schedule on this Monday.  I think we put in enough hours over the weekend but all good stuff.

Today it will be fun to see for real that the Gonzaga Bulldogs will move up to No. 1.  We know that it's very likely to happen, but seeing is definitely believing.

Happy Monday. Enjoy the photos.
