German Sausage Picnic No. 3 in the Books

Willie wanted to try out the new portable grill his dad had given him as a gift.

Wood's German sausages were mentioned as the main dish.

Since Bill and I have already gone on a couple of Montana picnics this year with Bill's portable grill and sausages, we happily accepted Debbie's invitation to join them.

Bill and I began the year with sausages and grill at Trout Creek and later enjoyed a mini picnic in Troy.

Those German sausages cooked to the point of their skins having a charcoal texture, fresh off the grill and then dipped in mustard are to die for.

Bill and I brought along four sausages; Willie and Debbie brought four also.  Figuring this was probably a lunch-dinner, we permitted ourselves to a two-sausage day.

Willie and Debbie also brought along the grandpuppies, and when Noxon, Montana's Pilgrim Park on the banks of the Clark Fork River was mentioned as the destination, we took off and headed east on HWY 200.

We made a stop in Clark Fork for propane and a few minutes later, crossed the river and turned into the park.

We encountered a surprise while driving in.  Several big trees had been blown over, and one entrance was blocked by the blow-down.

So, we took another route to the parking lot not far from a picnic table.

Within seconds of the grandpuppies' exit from Willie and Debbie's car, geese which had been hanging out not far from the picnic table were launching off and flying to the river.

We hauled our goodies to the table; then, Willie and Bill spent some time orienting the new grill, which, at first didn't want to stay fired up. Eventually, however, those sausages were ready.

Twas unexpectedly cold over there as the wind was whipping up, but we all brought extra layers.  The dogs didn't mind the cold as they spent part of their wanderings splashing around in the river.

The place turned out to be a great choice because we had the entire area to ourselves.

Bill read a sign over near the ballpark noting that dogs needed to be under control and on leash IF other picnickers asked.

We thought that guideline showed a lot of common sense, especially since nobody else ever showed up.

The outing topped off Willie's Spring Break.  He's back at school today and says the next break [summer] comes the second week of June.

Not long after we arrived home, Annie drove into the driveway from Seattle.

She has rented a car for her trip east to Minnesota, which begins tomorrow.

And, so our day was complete, getting to see kids and grandpuppies.

A good time was had by all, and we're looking forward to several charcoal-flavored German sausage mini picnics ahead.

Happy Monday, and on this day a Happy Birthday remembrance of our dad Harold, who would have been 105 today.

Florine, I thought about you yesterday as we sat looking at this mountain peak.

I'm pretty sure you spent some time there, watching for fires, right?
