Seems to be a lot of coming and going these days.
Not long after going to Hayden for Bill's post-surgery appointment, he got the okay from the doctor and we were on our way to enjoy some more "gross" treats at the Gross Donut Shop.
I especially liked trying the maple bar with bacon bits. Not bad.
Then, Bill drove home, withOUT wearing glasses. He says it's going to be an adjustment to get over the 61-year habit of reaching for his glasses first thing in the morning.
Soon after settling in to our respective routines, we saw a pickup come into the driveway. Turns out its occupants were longtime friends.
I think I've known Diane Ekwortzell Gartrell since I was a first grader at Lincoln Elementary School, and she was a fourth grader with my brother Mike.
We have continued our friendship over the decades, and we do share a lot in common---horses, gardening, dogs and politics---not in any particular order.
During her adult life, Diane has also traveled and lived in fascinating parts of the world.
Accompanying Diane was her classmate Don Shaffer, who has been a friend for a long time too. I think I'm remembering correctly that, for a time, he lived down the road from us at what is now the fairgrounds back in the day.
He and my brother Mike both played football under Cotton Barlow at Sandpoint High.
Don went on to become a highly successful high school football coach himself in San Diego. One of his players, Rickie Williams, eventually played in the NFL.
Don is here visiting this week with his fiancee Joanne, another classmate from SHS 1962..
We enjoyed a quick visit in the front yard and then they went on their way to visit more relatives and friends.
Meanwhile, I headed off to pick up my sister Laurie and go to the fairgrounds to watch CB and Newly at horse camp.
The horses were getting the day off, but we still enjoyed some more good visiting.
While there, we watched kids who had ridden to their class on their horses, dismount and take up some hula hooping exercises (photos below) designed for a number of aspects of body control.
And, "fun," clinician Mary Marienau said.
The horse camp goes through tomorrow. Fortunately, the kids and staff will wrap it up before the REALLY hot weather starts.
In other horse-related news, my sister Barbara won a regional championship in trail at the Arabian regionals in Nampa.
Congratulations, Barbara.

The article below involves an agricultural professional whose roots go deep in our North Boyer neighborhood.
Her mom Frannie Paulet and I were in 4-H together. Later, Frannie and Sarah's father Steve Maki from Bonners Ferry worked for years, associated with the University of Idaho and the Latah County Fair.
I've known Sarah since her early childhood and have enjoyed following her pursuits with agriculture and sheep.
It's a fun story about her efforts to breed, raise and enjoy a unique breed of sheep.
Considering the memory-lane aspects above, I don't have to go into my photo library on this Throwback Thursday, especially considering the article below.
Today Helen and Skip Newton officially have 60 years of good memories as husband and wife and contributing members of our community.
I can say with confidence that they truly are an exemplary team in the marriage record books.
Happy official anniversary today, Helen and Skip.
It may not be 100 degrees on this day 60 years later, but it'll be hot enough to remind you of your special day.

Hope you two have a wonderful day. I have a feeling your telephone may be ringing.
I think for about the second time in all my gardening years, I can boast corn knee high by the Fourth of July.
Who knows?
With the upcoming 100-plus temps, we may even be eating garden corn by the Fourth of July.
Sunny came along with me this morning to inspect the corn. Actually, she was impatient with me because I wasn't getting to the barn to fill her food dish fast enough.
I had time to walk one block down Government Way in Hayden yesterday to snap a few flower pictures.
By the time, I turned around and started walking back to the eye clinic, Bill was already out and ready to start his new life of "seeing clearly."
It's obvious that he's pretty happy with the results of his two surgeries.
Happy Thursday. Stay cool.
