Fair DAZE

Twas a long day yesterday.  I’ve got the photos, plus a slight reprimand for being in the pig unloading zone to prove it.  Most of the photos will remain in my library for other purposes.

The fair doesn’t even officially open until Wednesday, but the grounds are bustling with activity, most of it tightly organized.  Logistics! Logistics! Logistics!

I’ve seen several great examples of how the parts must work in unison and then together for the operation, as a whole, to unfold.

Yesterday’s main event involved rabbits, pigs, chickens, goats, sheep, etc. showing up and being guided to stalls which were prepared and decorated Sunday.

Record books for 4-H’ers had to appear and had to be signed.

Animals bound for the fat stock sale had to be weighed.

In the main exhibit building, two major events were happening:  booths were being decorated and items for judging were being entered with respective superintendents.

Today, after 11, that building will be closed off for judging, while outside, the main events will involve some judging of animals which showed up yesterday.

Adding to the mix, today is the day for fat steers to come to the fair. They'll be weighed early tomorrow morning.

After watching all the preliminary goings on over the past two days, I'm convinced that some masterminds have figured out the best logistics and timing for the fair to operate as smoothly as possible.

Sometimes, in the moment, it may not seem that way, but spend some time there watching each chapter of the fair unfold and you gain great respect for the folks behind the scenes.

As always, I had a fun day yesterday meeting new people and gabbing and bantering with old friends.

Since our Internet went down this morning, I'm running late on my logistics for the day, so will wish everyone a happy Tuesday.

Stay cool.  Enjoy the photos.

A truly wonderful, timely and generous gesture by Peck's Farm Supply at Sagle.

The business, with help from Kile Baker and his family, is donating oodles and oodles of bug spray for anyone associated with the fair.

With hot temperatures forecast for the next several days, the livestock bug deterrent will be most welcome and appreciated.
