The emergency broadcast system kept breaking into programming on KPBX Radio Station last night, warning of dangerous lightning, thunder and hail along with some flash flooding.
I don't know how severe the situations were in various areas, but I do know it's really noisy out there as I type this morning.
We did have a little rain just after 5, but now it's just the noise.
So far, nothing too serious around here.

On the garden front, Bill and I enjoyed some sweet, juicy fresh corn from the garden for dinner last night.
As I sat nibbling every square inch of my cob, I nibbled proudly, thinking about how all this flavor came from a little seed.
I must have done something right with this year's corn because it was exciting to open up the ears and find rows and rows of corn kernals.
That doesn't always happen; some years my corn stalks look beautiful but don't have cobs.
For that reason, last night's nibbles were oh so sweet.

I also attended a gathering at former student and friend Mitzi's house. That's where Lucy dog, pictured below, lives. Lucy took obedience training with Foster, Meggie and Jessie.
During the gathering of former students, including Vatican reporter and CNS bureau chief Cindy Wooden, Lucy's quiet obedience as she clutched her toy and listened to all the conversation was impressive.
Cindy's stories of traveling with the Popes since the early 1990s kept us mesmerized.
She told about the routine of receiving the Papal speeches the night before events, then working on the story the next morning BUT being very careful to listen to the entirety of those speeches because Francis often goes off script.
Fun gathering, to say the least. Thanks to Mitzi for organizing it and to Cindy for sharing her stories.

This morning Bill is preparing to depart for one of his favorite fishing "cricks" up north. It's a drainage where he spent a summer camping out and working for the U.S. Forest Service.
So, he'll be hooking on to some catch-and-release "lunkers" and definitely reminiscing the good ol' days.
Meanwhile, I'll be working on some writing assignments and keeping track of the beloveds around here.
Speaking of which: we are very proud of Miss Bridie this morning. We make that statement every day as she still mutilates toilet paper rolls and steals food off the counter.
But, by golly, today, Bridie did what she's bred to do.
She dispersed a flock of turkeys making their way through the yard right next to the house.
As we walked out the door, I saw the birds and thought, "Now's the time."
"Go get 'em," I said to Bridie, letting go of her leash. Like our dear beloved Kea, Bridie did the job pretty close to right.
She sent them on their way, then stopped and came back.
Good dog, Bridie!
Goodies at last night's gathering. |
Happy Birthday, Kiersten. |
Happy Thursday to all.
