There is probably a good story here.
Anyone? Anyone?
With the nip and fog in the air, I almost expected to see a school bus roll by this morning.
Not quite yet.
A runner, a dog and a Subaru instead.
Yellow buses on brisk and misty fall mornings aren't far off.
School starts here Sept. 6.
Teachers go back officially next week, which means the "Ha Ha, we don't have to go to school potluck" for our retired staff members will happen the same day current teachers report.
What a nice and gradual trip into fall we are having. Some blustery weather with thunder, lightning, wind and breezes but not too bad.
The outdoors has enjoyed some welcome late August cleansing, which makes it much easier to notice all the various colored berries appearing bushes around our yard.
I'm told those bushes were purposely planted to attract the wildlife.
And, they do.
Bridie stood by the sliding glass door with her Border Collie stance and her stare as I prepared to take the horses to pasture.
When I looked out to see if maybe those turkeys had come back, I saw a deer with its front feet up in the big flower bed southwest of the house.
It was positioned perfectly to chomp off some of those berries.
Happily, we had no turkey sightings this morning. Bridie had two opportunities yesterday to send them on their way.
In the evening, they were headed down the lane when I let her loose, just to see if her morning herding experience was for real or a fluke.
No way. She knows what to do, and, for the most part, she listens when I tell her that's enough.
Could be the turkeys have decided on another route to their nightly accommodations, and that's okay with me.
In other news, Bill came home from his day-long fishing trip filled to the brim with stories about cow herds on the roadway and about great conversation he enjoyed with one of the ranch owners up in the Kootenai Valley.
Seems those were her family's cows and they had decided to head them home from their summer feeding area because of grizzly activity in the area.
Sounds like he had a great day visiting his old haunts and meeting a new friend.
Looks like a lovely day ahead, and, as usual, busy times ahead.
Happy Friday.
