A feather in the cap!
The hat still stays on its post next to some mailboxes.
I have a feeling the hat will continue to inspire interest and maybe some more adornment.
For now, it's a fun roadside attraction.
Last night we drove down a new mountain road for me. We had attempted the route a year or two ago in the spring, but it was snowed in at the time.
This road runs through the Trout Creek drainage and to an area scorched by forest fire last summer.
We saw some patches of the fire's aftermath where greenery now provides a sharp contrast to partially burned trees.
We also saw a big open area where equipment had been parked and a fire line.
On the way back, Bill wanted to see the pond where he likes to fish occasionally. It was almost empty.
The tall grass surrounding the pond was pretty, though.
Twas a fun evening drive, going down a road not taken.

On another front, we have smoke in the air from thousands of acres burning up in a number of fires west and north of Bonners Ferry.
It's called the Kootenai Complex Fire, now including more than 12, 000 acres.
Bonners Ferry is to the left in this time exposure, taken Monday night, showing the Kootenai River and the Kootenai Complex.

Sweet peas and sweet bees.
This is Kenny, the new grandpuppy's friend Pepper.
Yesterday when I drove over to Willie and Debbie's to take Kenny outside for a walk, Pepper was reminding me that she's the head cat in the house.
And, it was interesting to see that even Pepper is bigger than Kenny.
Of course, Kenny was as cute as ever as he walked and sniffed and even met a horse nose to nose.
Debbie later reported that Kenny had no accidents during the day in his crate.

Kenny and big brother Joe having a visit. |
Regarding my 21st consecutive day of not having to stand at the front of a classroom yesterday, I discovered that the day was perfect going to the store.
At both Wal-Mart and Yoke's grocery store, parking lots had plenty of space and lines at the check stands were minimal.
I'm sure the trend won't last long, but I'm also figuring that those same stores had SO much activity over the weekend that it was time for a lull, and, of course, kids were in school.
Twas definitely a good day for shopping.
Cooler nights have given my pumpkins a color start.
The red plums are also coloring up. Some of my purple variety went into a kettle yesterday in preparation for the next batch of jelly.
And, that's all.
Happy Wednesday.
