Hickey Farms Week Two Album

Company had come and gone, so I decided to spend some more time at Hickey Farms yesterday afternoon.

It is truly a happy place for all ages.

Bill had given me $20 to pick up an andouille sausage "po" boy.

He's been frequenting the Cajun food truck and selecting a different offering each time.

Last Sunday it was red beans and rice.  On Saturday he chose jumbalaya, so he was getting his taste buds ready for the sandwich.

Unfortunately, the Cazun food truck was not there yesterday because of another commitment.

But they'll be back next weekend.

So, when I saw newly retired and former Hoot Owl Restaurant owner Wendy walk by with some Klondyke ribs, I knew Bill would still be happy.

Bruneau served up the ribs and coleslaw and gave me a kiss on my hand.

Yesterday's stroll around the farm was as fun as usual, and the cows were happy.

After all, when those tasty ears of sweet corn keep coming from hands of little folks, it's a fun day for the bovines.

Chrystal and Sam were singing some wonderful country tunes.

Kids were having a great time on the giant blow-ups inside the big barn and commerce at the gift booths was brisk.

As always, one could see the work of Koda, the face and hand painting artist, pretty much everywhere kids were having the times of their lives.

The Hickey-Holt families have certainly fine-tuned both their pumpkin offerings and all the other family-friendly activities.

I guess you'd call it Oden's own version of Disneyland, and the best part:  it's a lot less expensive.

More fun to come over the next few weekends at Hickey Farms.

Check it out and enjoy those eats.

On a very sad note, I learned last night that the hit-and-run tragedy in Oldtown on Friday involved one of my former students who is also a longtime family friend.

I learned that she is the grandmother of the little children.

It's difficult to even write about the incident, but I would like to do my part in spreading the word for the sake of a GoFundMe account, which has been set up to help this family.

As another family member told me in a note last night, "Yes, it’s been a weekend that is never supposed to happen to ‘your family’ (or any family)."

I'll let the link tell you the full story and how you can donate money or meals.

Please help if you can.

Thank you.
