On a Smoky Sunday

It's been a weekend filled with emotions and reflections of human behavior:  loss, sadness, gratitude, concern, caring, generosity, fun, etc.

The three horses above are family:  a mom and her two young'uns.  The mom is the chestnut mare on the left.

She and her Palomino babies, along with four other horses from Chattaroy, are safe in their temporary home at Colburn.

Their owners hauled them to my sisters' ranch  from their home in Chattaroy where a devastating wildfire has been burning.

Their owners are doing fine and awaiting word about returning to their home and their normal lives.

Below, another family of sorts.  CB came home yesterday from his week of training at my sisters' ranch in Colburn, to the welcoming whinnies of his buddies Lily and Lefty. All is once again copacetic with these three.

And, this family spent some quality time together this weekend.

Twas a precious gift of time together with some busy people.

And, yes, it was a highlight to gather around Garry, the blue-ribbon pumpkin.

Today Annie will head back to Seattle, and we'll be yearning for her next visit.

Sad to post this today.

I told Gary's sister Janis this morning that if there were a "nicest person" award in our class, Gary would win it hands down.

Gary with his sister Janis.  Both are classmates.

Such a nice person.  Such a loss.

My sister Laurie was quick to point out to viewers when I sent this to her on Facebook that two of their horses are kicking up dust----not smoke!

They were feeling their oats that day.

This was taken as the smoke rolled in Friday afternoon.  We have not seen the mountains since.

And, the crows below were having a gathering in one of Eva Whitehead's trees on Friday morning when I drove past.

We, as a family, went to the fair yesterday and enjoyed some of the sights and sounds, along with lunch and elephant ears.

Let's hope for better times in our region.  It's been a tough couple of days but we've heard and witnessed some reassuring and inspiring stories about humanity at its best.

Happy Sunday.
