Saturday Slight

It's a Saturday in September, and sports are on my mind.

Our Sandpoint Bulldogs won their Homecoming football game last night.

Zach Norvell, a former standout guard from Chicago and big time 3-point shooter for the ZAGS, will be on the staff as an assistant coach for Gonzaga men's basketball this season.

Pretty neat when the players come back and become coaches.

GO, ZAGS!  GO, ZACH!

Today's college football features two huge games of interest to us West Coasters.

Deion Sanders' red-hot Colorado Buffaloes will be playing the No. 10 Oregon Ducks.

After all the early hype and success of Colorado under Sanders, this should be a fun game to watch.

In addition, we always like to watch the sidelines and pick out Chris Pietsch, an award-winning photographer and friend from Sandpoint.

Sometimes I even text him during the game, and sometimes he even answers my texts.

Chris, whose first professional job was taking our wedding pictures 49-plus years ago, should get some of his usual phenomenal shots today.

Check out his website.  Pretty neat.

After the Oregon-Colorado game, the PAC 2 Championship game between Washington State and Oregon State ought to be another thriller.

And, hopefully tomorrow the Seattle Seahawks will notch another win.

Lots of fun stuff for television watching. As mentioned before, we don't do the long-haul couch potato stuff with these games, but the TV is on and we take in the highlights.

Before settling in on football, I'm taking a senior portrait today for a student here in the neighborhood.

It will be fun going from place to place and trying some interesting shots.

These are nice experiences because it gives me an opportunity to maintain some connections with the younger crowd.

Again, not much else today.  The countdown on the Ireland trip has reached the single digits, and reality is beginning to set in.

If we just didn't have to sit in a plane or an airport for so many hours, the experience would be much more fun.

Happily, Bill and I ordered seats with extra leg room on our long flight from Seattle to Dublin. If we could figure out an easy way to fall asleep and stay asleep, that would be nice.

For now, there's work to be done and some exciting football to watch.

Happy Saturday.
