Cruisin' through Weather and the Country

We have a little snow spitting this morning.  I told Bill it was more like "snail,"  aka snow with a hail consistency.

My friend Simon, the efficient and super nice guy who seems to do everything at Yoke's Grocery Store in Ponderay is also a topnotch weather forecaster, focusing on Western Montana and Northern Idaho.

He caught me in the checkout line the other day and told me that he had put together his winter forecast for '23-'24.  I didn't catch all of his subsequent comment, but it seemed he said I would like it but maybe not others.

So, after seeing the "snail" putting a white coat on the vehicles this morning, I decided to give his online forecast a quick look.

Yes, I don't mind his long-range prediction one bit, but I'm sure others who like to ski and engage in other winter sports may have concerns.

Here's the gist of it, and you can visit his site for up-to-date regional weather and see all the pictures and statistics that tell the story.

from Simon:

From this picture we can see that NOAA anticipates the winter season to show precipitation leaning below average with about a 40-50% chance of this occurring.

In summary then the Climate Prediction Center for NOAA is saying that they anticipate North Idaho and Northwest Montana to have an overall warmer than average winter and a drier than average winter.

While we wait for winter here, we are still able to enjoy alternate days of sunshine and bare ground.

Yesterday turned out to be a great day after the morning ice thawed.  Dogs could go to the hay field and run around at their hearts' content while I just enjoyed the beauty of the clouds, golden tamarack and green fields.

It's lovely to be this far into November and not have to put on the winter clodhoppers.

After the dogs enjoyed themselves in the field, we went for a drive around the countryside, where picture-taking opportunities were abundant.

I'm happy to report that cataract removal will not affect my ability to see through the camera window while taking pictures, unlike all other close-up stuff.

I'm sure the putting glasses on, taking the glasses off happens several dozen times a day. My biggest problem is remembering to take them off after looking at my Fitbit or my iPhone and then watching TV.

Just when I'm thinking that the television picture suddenly got fuzzy, I remember that I'm still wearing my glasses.  Off they come and all is clear and bright.

Anyway, we still have some pretty countryside here in the middle of November, and it is wonderful.

Happy Birthday today to my niece Maureen and to my newly found cousin Ginny.  Hope you both have a wonderful day.

Happy Wednesday to all. Be sure to check out Simon's weather report.

This beauty belongs to my friend Roxane who is taking care of my horses this winter.

Sammy loves the horses and the peeps.  A very good dog.

We're hoping that eventually Sammy and Bridie can become friends.
