Night Sky Phenomenon

We were watching "60 Minutes" when Annie sent a note to let us know that the Aurora Borealis was visible in North Idaho.

So, when the segment ended, I headed outside to see the phenomenon.

Just past the barn, I could see that the sky in the north was lighter than usual.

I walked to the end of the lane, a spot which gives an open, unobstructed view to the north.

Yes, the sky was bright, but I couldn't see any rays of different colors, just brightness.

So, I came back to the house, wrote back and described what I'd seen.

Annie told me I need to take a camera outside and shoot a long exposure.  Or, "your cell phone will work," she added.

Out I went again with the cell phone, and, by golly, for the first time in my life, I captured some Northern Lights.

Not the best images I've ever seen but definitely a thrill for me. Later, I sent a photo to Annie and she seemed equally thrilled that I had seen them and captured some images.

I see from Facebook this morning that it was a banner night for Aurora Borealis around the world.

So, it was really neat to have participated in a viewing of the phenomenon that was so widespread.

Next time I'll try to get better pictures.

Busy day and week ahead, so am keeping this really brief.

Happy Monday.
