Wet and Wetter

I looked out the garage door and saw patches of ice splattered by persistent raindrops.

This could be slick, I thought.

So, I attached  my Yak Trax to my boots for the first time this season.

Then, when Bridie and I went outside, it wasn't long before it seemed like waders would have been a wiser choice.

It's a mess out there as I type. The rain keeps coming and those ice patches are quickly turning to slush, some of it really deep slush.

We also have a lot of lake property this morning.

In relative darkness, when I inadvertently stepped into one lake that had formed in the high ground in front of the far shed, water began seeping into my boots.

And, this is just the beginning.  The rain is supposed to fall almost steadily until sometime tomorrow. My friend Simon, the weather forecasters, says we can expect 2-3.5 inches of rain in the valleys through Thursday.

His weather forecast show 100 percent chance of rain today and tomorrow.

So, we'll hunker down and do the indoor stuff.  I'll happily remove my Yak Trax and will probably do some grocery shopping and work on Christmas cards.

Plus, it will be a perfect day for toweling off wet dogs.

Speaking of fun, it should be a great opportunity for listening to the land line phone ring at least a dozen times during day with nobody, clicks or obnoxious loud dial tones at the other end.

What is with this newest "try to drive you crazy" telephone trend?

We actually had one person talking in a muffled voice yesterday, telling us he'd like to give us some estimates on some unknown thing that we were supposed to have ordered. We'll pass.

We did escape some of these daily nuisances, thanks to a pleasant afternoon yesterday, leading into last night's rain---almost shirt sleeve weather and some sun. I visited my horses and spent as much time outside as possible, knowing what was coming.

Fortunately, today is GAME DAY for both the Sandpoint Bulldog girls basketball and Gonzaga men. So, those events should be a distraction from the rain.

Willie's team takes on its first bigtime challenge tonight at Les Rogers Bulldog Gym.  The Bulldogs (4A State Champs) will host the Coeur d'Alene Vikings (5A State Champs).

The Vikings who play in Idaho's largest school division have a 5-1 record, with one loss to Boise High School.  Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have earned a 3-0 record.

The game, which starts at 7 p.m.,  should be a hard-fought and exciting game.

As one team parent posted yesterday on Facebook, it would be nice to fill the gym tonight.

GO, BULLDOGS!

Also, 7th-ranked Gonzaga hosts the Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions at 6 p.m. tonight.

This matchup will be broadcast on KHQ-Root.

GO, ZAGS!

Happy Tuesday.  Stay dry!
