It's been a great week so far for area Bulldog basketball teams and for their adoring fans.
Last night, we attended the Sandpoint-Coeur d'ALene game at Les Rogers Gym, and we loved every minute.
Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint, even though they're in different divisions were two evenly matched, scrappy basketball teams.
Both sides played their hearts out.
When the final buzzer sounded, Sandpoint's girls had pulled off a victory over Coeur d'Alene that has seldom happened in recent times.
Historically speaking, even back to my school days of forever ago, beating Coeur d'Alene pretty much paralleled winning a state championship in excitement.
And, to have the teams at last night's game both State Champions---that made the Bulldogs' victory all the more meaningful.
Congratulations to Willie, his coaching staff and his team. It was fun and nail-biting to watch from beginning to end.
We had to miss most of the Gonzaga men's game, where the score when we left home was 24-2, but our neighbor Leslie kept us posted.
At the end of last night's Sandpoint game, we also saw our other neighbors to the south, Wes and Alyssa. They had come to watch their son's girlfriend play.
So, it was a fun night all around for our neighborhood basketball fans.

At each game, a few future Sandpoint High girls basketball players get to sit at the end of the bench.
Whenever players come out of the game, there's the usual hand slap with teammates AND with these little ladies.
It's neat to watch the camaraderie between these future players and their high school heroes.

This was a neat moment prior to last night's Coeur d'Alene-Sandpoint girls basketball game.
Senior cross country and basketball standout Lily Richardson wanted to acknowledge a mentor who has helped guide her through her high school and college goals.
Having had Jeralyn Lewis Mire as a student and friend, I was tickled pink to see her honored.
Jeralyn has touched countless lives in so many positive ways over the years as a counselor extraordinaire--even as Idaho's High School Counselor of the year.
When I worked with her as a student at Sandpoint High for three years, I loved watching her use her amazing people and leadership skills to make the meekest soul feel like someone really special.
This is a gift, and Jeralyn has used it wisely and generously over the years. Anyone who knows Jeralyn will agree.
So, it was neat to see her honored one more time. Jeralyn, I am always proud of you!
Keep spreading your magic.
Speaking of educators and students enjoying learning, I spent a few minutes at Selle Valley Carden School yesterday.
The students are selling Christmas swags for an exciting cause. The class I visited will be participating in Idaho's Future City Competition in Boise.
Money raised from selling the swags will go toward their accommodations while they compete in Boise.
The swags are on display outside the buildings at the SVCS campus on Selle Road.
If you would like to purchase a swag or two, they sell for $25 apiece and you send an email to admin@sellevalleycardenschool.com for more information.
I was so impressed during my short visit with the good manners, respect and friendliness among the students.
Having visited this wonderful school numerous times over the years, I can vouch that this positive behavior has and continues to be a standard at SVCS.
