Saturday Slight

Let's play ball.

Miss Bridie is ready at any moment, anywhere, on any day.

We're hoping the snow doesn't hide too many of her balls.

We do have snow this morning but so far not enough to shovel and dry enough to make for pleasant conditions outside.

I looked at my phone this morning and saw that all aspects of winter are going to come down upon us this week.

Besides snow, one day later in the week calls for ten below zero for a low and 8 degrees as a high.

I think we'll be bundling up.

A little hometown, neighborhood touch. . . to this excerpt from Max's story.

Lakeland took their first lead of the game early in the fourth, 40-38, and continued to build on it.

The Hawks eventually found themselves ahead by seven with about two minutes remaining in the contest.

Sandpoint needed to turn things around … junior reserve Aubrey Knowles delivered. Down 50-45, Brecken Mire poked the ball free from a Lakeland guard and it landed in the hands of Knowles.

Knowles dribbled down the court and converted an and-one layup and made the free throw. It was the loudest Les Rogers Court has been all season.

“Her teammates almost jumped through the roof with excitement,” head coach Will Love said. “She has been a part of this team all three years, and I’m sure she was disappointed to have to start the season on junior varsity, but she never held her head, worked hard, and opportunities have risen throughout the season.

She has been really solid off the bench; she doesn’t commit turnovers and rebounds well. She does lots of things that go unnoticed. I’m excited for Aubrey to be recognized for this hustle play.”

The hometown/neighborhood aspect is illustrated in the photo below.

The Knowles family (John, Janice, Kelly and Ryan) lived across North Boyer from my parents.

John was also one of my former teaching colleagues. He did a lot to help out my folks at the time.

Later, in 1985, he really helped out the Love family when we lived on Great Northern Road and our house had burned down.

John built us a new house, which we lived in until moving out to Selle.

While the Knowles resided on Boyer and the Love's lived on Great Northern Road, the kids would occasionally get together.  In the case below, it was a birthday party.

Nearly 40 years later, Ryan Knowles serves as Sandpoint High head football coach, while Willie Love aka Will coaches girls varsity basketball.

Kinda neat last night to have Coach Knowles' daughter have an exciting break-out moment and this morning to read the words of her coach who is also her dad's childhood friend and current colleague.

Of course, Moms and Dads in each family are very proud of their SHS coaching sons.

The Knowles family.  Proud night last night for them.

Debbie's friends Tammy and Dan Harder came to the game.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs started their WCC league season with a win Thursday night.

They'll be playing again tonight, facing off against the San Diego Toreros at McCarthey Athletic Complex aka the Kennel.

Tip off is at 6 p.m. Game will be broadcast on KHQ, Channel 6 or ESPN+.

GO, ZAGS!!!
