Seen, Heard and Read

This herd, often with some guardian dogs,  can be seen at HWY 95 and Selle Road.

Quite the menagerie.  They all seem to get along, even at meal time.

πŸπŸ‰πŸ…πŸŒπŸ”πŸ—

Speaking of meals, our daughter-in-law and
Bonner County Community Food Bank director Debbie made the front page of this morning's paper, thanks to generous donations to the food bank resulting from "deerly departeds."

from this week's "Sandpoint Online":

It's a very dramatic beer. Matchwood Brewing partners with various local organizations to brew up special-label beers for fundraisers.

Just out, for the Panida, is the tasty “Beer of the Century,” an amber ale brewed to support the Panida’s Century Fund capital campaign for theater restoration for its approaching 2027 centenary; pick up a four-pack at Matchwood, Winter Ridge or the Panida Theater.
The Idaho Film Company recently made a fun video. Click.

"The trip home is always better when you win."

Texted by SHS Bulldogs girls basketball coach Will Love, during the bus ride home from last night's victory in Lewiston.

Willie's team is now 12-2.

Read all about it in Max Oswald's game recap.

Last week I counted seven squirrels outside our windows at the feeders.

Life and the Lovestead bird feeders have been good for the squirrel population.

The calendar below arrived in yesterday's mail from my friend and former student Bryant.

I first met Bryant Jones when he was about 2 years old.  His mother Debbie had just moved to Sandpoint to serve as a magistrate judge.

The family lived at Condo del Sol where we were living for a time after our house burned down.

So, I saw little Bryant on occasion.

Later, I saw him every day for two years while he was a student in my sophomore and junior honors English classes.

We continued to keep in touch when he attended and graduated from the University of Vermont, where he served as its student body president.

After graduation, he lived in China for a time, teaching English.

Bryant earned his Master's Degree from George Washington University and also, while living in Washington, worked for Idaho Republican Congressman Mike Simpson and as a staff member for President Barack Obama.

He later moved to Boise where he has worked and worked on his doctorate at Boise State University.

It has been fun and inspiring to follow this young man's life, which now includes a beautiful family with his wife Marie and three children.

It's also been fun every year, for several years to open up a package from Bryant. The package always contains an interesting calendar, which I hang in a spot where I'll see it every day and often think of the nice and thoughtful person.

Thank you, Bryant, and congratulations on your doctorate.

I appreciate the note that came with yesterday's calendar and must tell you that you inspire me too.

We and many other country folk here in Selle  are believers of the meme below.
