Saturday Slight

Idaho State Semifinal girls basketball  games in Nampa's Idaho Center took up a good share of our day yesterday.

Willie watched them all from start to finish.

Lakeland put up a good fight against the undefeated Shelley Russets but will play in the 4A consolation game today.

I enjoyed visiting with some Lakeland parents and their coach after the game:  all very nice peeps.

Also, North Idaho will be represented in the 5A championship today as Lake City takes on Coeur d'Alene.

Bill and I took a break from the tournament so the dogs could get outside.  While doing so, called my high school classmate and longtime friend Karen Arndt Kruse who has moved to Nampa.

Turns out Karen and her husband Jerry were headed to a car wash after having lunch with another mutual friend and University of Idaho graduate, Debby Toevs Lucerno.

Debby and I lived in Carter Hall at the University of Idaho. She now resides in Karen's neighborhood, and these days they walk their dogs together.

It had been only 50-plus years since I'd seen Debby, even though she spent some of her medical career just up north of us in Bonners Ferry.

Karen, Jerry and Debby met us where we were walking our dogs and then we enjoyed visiting and coffee at Flying M in downtown Nampa (my first time ever in Nampa proper).

Our visit was definitely an added and meaningful perk to these fun days spent with family.

The Love family, along with Debbie's soon-to-be 13-year-old adorable niece Khami, ended the day at Flying Pies Pizzeria in Boise.  Annie worked at the pizza parlor while attending Boise State.

It's a funky and fun place, and the pizza was great.

Don't know what we'll do today, but I'm sure it will be fun.

Happy Saturday.

I was friends with Debbie in Bonners Ferry in early ‘70’s as I was Extension Home Economist for University of Idaho Cooperative Extension Service. I had lunch with her in 1984 when I returned for a visit. Visited with Cathy Parkin’s also as she was a Special Education teacher in Bonners Ferry. Glad to hear of her location and your visit.
