A Fun Day for ZAGS Fans; Annie's Aussie Adventure

It may have been raining for most of the day yesterday, but the ZAG endorphins were working overtime for us, elevating our moods to several states of pride-filled euphoria.

We watched the first half of the men's game, then climbed into Willie's car and turned on the radio play-by-play while enroute to Spokane and McCarthey Athletic Complex.

The Gonzaga women's game started around 4:30.  We arrived more than an hour early so took in a few minutes of Gonzaga baseball, where the Bulldogs were playing Loyola Marymount.

We learned later that they won after breaking a 2-2 tie.

Listening to the men's game as opposed to watching it was a bit of a disappointment but the details provided by Tom Hudson and Adam Morrison kept stretching to the level of supreme.

It was a great victory for the ZAGS over storied Kansas, and I sincerely thank you, Mow, for your graciousness in what had to be a painful loss.

My dear friend had her two hats (Jayhawk and Zags) available for wearing during the game and she sent a nice note wishing good times ahead for the ZAGS.

The important part of all this is that there are great stories to go along with athletes bouncing or passing a ball up and down the court.

Over the years, those stories blend into what we call history.

Mow loves the long history of her Jayhawks, and we are loving nearly 30 years of our history loving the ZAGS.

It all makes for great conversation and camaraderie during the long winter months.

At this point, for our men's team, we are thrilled that they notched another Sweet Sixteen, and for the women, their story of greatness is truly unfolding this year.

We hope they also make it to the Sweet Sixteen.

Beyond that, in our minds, it's all frosting on the cake.

Whenever these stories of March Madness ends for Gonzaga teams, we'll be gearing up for next year.

College basketball is phenomenal in so many ways.

Anywho, we enjoyed a full dose yesterday, staying after the Gonzaga women's game and watching Utah's Utes win in their matchup with South Dakota.

The women play Utah at McCarthey tomorrow at 7:30 p.m., and the men travel on to Detroit later this week and keep on dancing.

Another pleasant aspect of our trip to the women's NCAA tournament came when I ran into Andrea Balch Boyle, my SHS 1965 classmate whom I'd not seen since our last reunion in 2015.

Later, Rick and Janet Anthony, also classmates came walking my way.  We actually had seats just a row apart.

So, there was some delightful frosting on the cake for a memorable and fun day.

Happy Sunday.

Annie's Aussie Adventures:  While we were captivated by college basketball from morning 'til night, Annie was hiking with some Camino pilgrims in the Blue Mountains of Australia.

from Annie:  Went on an amazing hike in the Blue Mountains with fellow Camino walkers…one I met on the Camino Primitivo last year. Always fun to reconnect with friends from the Camino!
The trail was the Grand Canyon Track and it had the best variety of expansive views and a stunning rain forest gorge.

Enjoy the photos.
