CB's Take, Etc.

It seemed like a pretty simple question.

I figured a little bit of horse sense would help me decide if many of us are losing touch with reality so I asked my beloved horse friend a question.

But CB had to do some serious pondering before sharing his response.

All I asked was what he thinks of the present state of politics in America.

He finally reached a conclusion.

Yup, CB, I agree.

When we would not even need script writers for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and SATURDAY NIGHTS LIVE, I think we have some serious absurdity in our real world.

What's with it, America?

Can't we do better?

Just wonderin'.

On the "good stuff" side of things, I read in the morning paper that Billy Bopp is going to be inducted into the North Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I think everyone loves Billy, especially now that he is a "retired" referee.

We longtime oldsters have watched him grow up and, as an adult, earn great respect as a basketball official for both high school and college games.

from this morning's Daily Bee:

Bopp was a high school basketball official for 36 years before he retired in 2021. He also spent more than a dozen years officiating college games.

Bopp, who lives in Cocolalla, graduated from Sandpoint High in 1978 and began officiating games in 1984. During his time, he worked roughly 38 Idaho high school state tournaments, including 20 boys tournaments and 18 on the girls side. He probably would have worked more if not for a rule that prohibited referees from working more than one state tournament each year.

Bopp also officiated junior college basketball games in the area during the 1990s and early 2000s before going back to doing only high school games.

He did miss the 2004-05 season officiating because he dislocated his hip after an ATV accident while elk hunting.

In 2022, he received the IHSAA Distinguished Service Award for District 1.

Billy, we are proud of you.

I've always had a fondness for Billy and his extended and fun family, almost considering them part of my family.

That fondness increased when I learned that Billy's birthday is April 1---same day as our Willie's.

Both are basketball lovers and both, proud Bulldogs.

With that in mind, here's some more good news.

Our Willie spent some time in Jackpot, Nev., this week where he was asked to give three different presentations to an annual coaching clinic.

I asked him how it went, and he said the presentations went well and it was a lot of fun.

So, two loveable April Fool's with similar names have done well with the discipline they love this week.

We are getting closer to March Madness and the matchups have been set for both the Gonzaga men and the Gonzaga women in the WCC tournament.

Tomorrow at noon, the women play Pacific in a semifinal, while at 8:30 p.m., the men take on San Francisco in their semifinal.

Next Sunday (St. Paddy's Day), the selections for the NCAA tournaments will be made and then we can all be "madly" obsessed with basketball for at least as long as our teams stay in the tournament.

Fun stuff, but before getting excited about basketball, we have tonight's Academy Awards.

Bill and I both agreed that there's one moment important to both of us, and we hope it happens:  that Lily Gladstone wins Best Actress.

The rest can go any way it wants, but if she does win, it will be a shining and wonderful moment in American history.  We need these moments more than ever these days.

Finally, I was happy to see that cabbage is becoming royalty in the food groups, even outdoing bacon.

I can't fathom that, but if they say it's happening, I'm really happy for cabbage.

Will head off soon to Co-Op and get me some cabbage seeds.

Speaking of Co-Op, remember that the new emergency veterinary hospital, just north of Co-Op on HWY 95 is opening tomorrow at noon.

The clinic will be open until 10 p.m.

GO, Michelle!

You've got this! 💓💓

Happy Sunday.
